Clarification on Maia-3 model weight redistribution #11

Description

@ganesubu

Hi, I’m building an open-source offline chess application using Maia-3.

The Maia-3 source repository is AGPL-3.0, but I’m looking for clarification on the licensing of the released model checkpoints themselves.

Specifically, is redistribution of the official Maia-3 checkpoints (such as maia3-5m.pt) permitted?

And is redistribution of a converted/repackaged version of the checkpoint (for example, a .bin format used for browser/mobile inference) permitted?

If so, what license, attribution, and modification/provenance notices should a third-party project include?

I’m asking because I would like to distribute the 5M model with an offline application rather than requiring users to download and convert the checkpoint themselves.

I want to make sure I comply with the intended licensing before releasing it publicly.

Thanks for Maia-3 and for clarifying this.
