Is an epicsEnvSet the same as a macro set?

epicsEnvSet may be called on macros, but in general they are silghtly different as we often pass macros through on dbLoadRecords whereas I don't think an epicsEnvSet will pass through the macros to a db

basically i want to set a macro through lua and then check if it exists using a stringiftest in the st.cmd file

When an epicsEnvSet is called I'm not sure how far the "environment" that it sets it for stretches. It may be that it's just for the lua shell in that case, or it may extend to the st.cmd

You can try it and see what it prints out?

Or you can do anything in an st.lua that you want to do in an st.cmd? Could move the whole operation you're trying to do across
