From 7bed349bf65af74c6417142cc0d08d89e324b47d Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Dean Rie Date: Fri, 23 Oct 2026 08:54:51 +0300 Subject: [PATCH 01/11] fix(github-plugin): retry secondary rate limits, not only primary ones fetchWithRateLimit returned a 403 as soon as x-ratelimit-remaining was above zero, before looking at retry-after. That is the shape of a GitHub secondary rate limit (too many concurrent requests or too many points per minute): 403 or 429, a retry-after header, and a primary budget that is still positive. Those answers were returned to the caller as if they were permission errors, so a burst of imports or a bulk extract run failed on the first secondary limit instead of waiting the seconds GitHub asked for. The function's own docstring already promised '403 + retry-after'. A 403 is now treated as a permission answer only when it has budget left and no retry-after. The wait follows GitHub's documented order: retry-after when present, the reset time when remaining is 0, otherwise one minute. Checked with a stubbed fetch: a 403 with retry-after: 1 and remaining 4999 followed by 200 now takes two attempts and returns 200 (one attempt and 403 before); a 403 with remaining 4999 and no retry-after still returns at once; a 403 with remaining 0 still waits for the reset. --- apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts | 25 +++++++++++++++++----- 1 file changed, 20 insertions(+), 5 deletions(-) diff --git a/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts b/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts index 6fb62149..4f175a72 100644 --- a/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts +++ b/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts @@ -154,19 +154,34 @@ export async function fetchWithRateLimit( if (res.status !== 429 && res.status !== 403) return res; - // Distinguish "rate-limited" 403 from "forbidden" 403 by checking the - // X-RateLimit-Remaining header. Any regex metacharacter in the dir name changed the pattern; a name like plugins/c++ made RegExp throw "Nothing to repeat", a plain SyntaxError that escaped parseGitHubPlugin instead of a GitHubParseError. A dot in a dir name matched any character, and a leading ./ in source only worked because . matched the literal dot. pathUnder() escapes the prefix before building the RegExp, and normalizeSubPluginDir() strips a leading ./ so that case keeps working on purpose rather than by accident. --- apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts | 29 ++++++++++++++++++---- 1 file changed, 24 insertions(+), 5 deletions(-) diff --git a/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts b/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts index 4f175a72..ad3d173f 100644 --- a/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts +++ b/apps/cursor/src/lib/github-plugin/parse.ts @@ -132,6 +132,24 @@ export function githubAuthHeaders(): Record { const sleep = (ms: number) => new Promise((r) => setTimeout(r, ms)); +/** + * Normalize a sub-plugin dir to `a/b/` form: no leading `./` or `/`, exactly + * one trailing `/`. The download is now decompressed in the pipeline under a second budget of 100 MB, and the file written to disk is the plain tar, so extraction cannot grow past it. Exceeding either budget is an UnscannableRepoError, which already maps to a suspicious verdict for manual review instead of a retry. tar 7.5.15, the version in bun.lock, has no decompression guard of its own; the ratio guard in later 7.5.x releases is relative and lets a 2 MB download unpack to 300 MB at 144:1, so an absolute cap is still needed. --- apps/cursor/src/lib/plugins/scan.ts | 54 ++++++++++++++++++++++------- 1 file changed, 42 insertions(+), 12 deletions(-) diff --git a/apps/cursor/src/lib/plugins/scan.ts b/apps/cursor/src/lib/plugins/scan.ts index 7e9835d6..64d8837c 100644 --- a/apps/cursor/src/lib/plugins/scan.ts +++ b/apps/cursor/src/lib/plugins/scan.ts @@ -19,6 +19,7 @@ import { tmpdir } from "node:os"; import path from "node:path"; import { Readable, Transform } from "node:stream"; import { pipeline } from "node:stream/promises"; +import { createGunzip } from "node:zlib"; import { Agent, CursorAgentError, type RunResult } from "@cursor/sdk"; import { x as extractTar } from "tar"; import { z } from "zod"; @@ -296,7 +297,13 @@ async function applyBlockedShortCircuit(pluginId: string) { // Cap how much of the repo archive we materialize on the function's tmpfs. // Plugins are typically rules/.md/.json — kilobytes — but we share /tmp with // other step executions and have a hard ~500MB limit on Vercel. +// +// Both the compressed download and what it unpacks to are capped. gzip turns +// a few hundred KB of zeros into hundreds of MB, so bounding the download +// alone leaves the tar on disk, and the extracted tree, unbounded.
