Estate-wide ReScript → AffineScript migration tracker

Cross-repo epic tracking all .res → .affine migration work across the hyperpolymath estate. Lives in affinescript because the migration-assistant tool + the language-grammar features were here.

Status (2026-05-31)

Prior blocker (#228) substantially CLEARED. The original blocker statement was: "Per-repo migration work waits for the type-path grammar to land." That gate has now lifted:

• feat(parser)!: ADR-014 — module-qualified type/effect paths (Refs #228) #241 (MERGED 2026-05-19) — parser slice (ADR-014): Pkg.Type / Pkg::Type parse at type AND effect positions

Migration assistant (#57) DELIVERED 2026-05-31. Through Phase 3 declaration translation:

• Phase 3 slices: aliases / sums (feat(res-to-affine): Phase 3 slice 1 — structural type-decl translation (Refs #57) #477), records / generics (feat(res-to-affine): Phase 3 slice 2 — record + generic type-decl translation (Refs #57) #481), literal let→const (feat(res-to-affine): Phase 3 slice 3 — literal let→const translation (Refs #57) #484)

tools/res-to-affine/main.exe is the per-PR substrate going forward; --translate (compiler-verified declarations) and --partial (best-effort function skeletons) both work on real estate .res files today.

Per-repo work proceeds with the migration assistant in the per-PR cycle. STEP 5 / STEP 6 batches now unblocked. STEP 9 still gated on AS host bindings (orthogonal).

Status refresh (2026-05-30):

The tracker is still live and accurate — but the gating blocker #228 (LANG: type/effect grammar has no module-qualified path) has bifurcated:

• Parser side is in flight (feat(typecheck): module-qualified type/effect path resolution (ADR-014, Refs #228) #447 PR armed today).
• Resolution + 4 adjacent gaps are tracked at LANG: qualified-path adjacent gaps (lowercase modules, use multi-seg, brace-list) — Refs #228 #448.

The estate-wide migration umbrella for the campaign half lives at standards#252 (UMBRELLA: ReScript → AffineScript estate migration) with 9 STEP sub-issues #260-#280; this affinescript-side #406 acts as the producer-side counterpart.

Recommend: keep #406 open as the producer-side tracker, but link standards#252 explicitly in the body so the relationship is bidirectional.

Estate-wide orphan-res discovery 2026-05-30.

A scan for .res files where a sibling .affine exists at the same basename ("orphan-res pattern") reveals 57 estate-wide pairs, indicating the hand-port wave got further than the per-repo trackers reflect:

Implication for per-repo trackers

The current "N .res remain" counts in per-repo trackers (e.g., idaptik#84 says 516, burble#48 says 27) overstate the remaining port work by the orphan-res count — those files have .affine siblings already.

True "needs-port" estimate:

• burble: 1 file (not 27)
• accessibility-everywhere: ~majority done
• stapeln: minus 9 of total
• idaptik: 516 − 4 ≈ 512 still genuinely needing port

Path to discharge

Per bilateral-retention pattern (cf. standards#241 sweep today + burble/READINESS.adoc), orphan-res deletion is gated on .affine CI verification — the .res is the live fallback until then. Two paths:

1. Per-repo .affine CI integration — once the AS toolchain compiles + runs the .affine in CI, delete the paired .res. This is per-repo engineering work.
2. Estate-wide post-LANG: type/effect grammar has no module-qualified path — Pkg.Type/Pkg.Effect unrepresentable (estate-wide port blocker; ADR-014) #228 sweep — affinescript#228 (qualified-path grammar) unlocks .affine parsing; once it lands, oracle-validation across the orphan-res set becomes mechanical, and verified pairs can be swept-deleted in one campaign.

Recommendation

File a new sub-issue or use this meta-tracker as the rollup. The orphan-res sweep is load-bearing for closing burble#48, partial accessibility-everywhere/stapeln progress, and refining idaptik#84's true scope.

Status update — AS stdlib codegen pattern now established (2026-06-01) 📌

For ticket coordinators / anyone tracking this gap:

• affinescript#522 + feat(stdlib): close 6 STEP-3 Deno-ESM gaps surfaced by TS→AS ports (Refs #239, #242) #504 merged 2026-06-01 establish the canonical stdlib extern → Deno-ESM lowering pattern via lib/codegen_deno.ml. Tests live in tests/codegen-deno/*.
• affinescript#463 unblocked non-ASCII string emit in Deno-ESM (Unicode escapes, not octal).
• affinescript#421 put stdlib/json on the Zig-FFI rails (hpm-json-rsr).

What this means for the gap tracked in this ticket:

• The codegen pattern is now a known repeatable shape: declare in stdlib/*.affine → wire in deno_builtins table + prelude → smoke-test in tests/codegen-deno/*.
• This ticket remains open as a tracked gap; no new mass-port is being kicked off from this post.
• Surfacing status so the broader picture stays accurate as more sub-tickets / dependent campaigns reference it.
