Is there documentation on the list of things pytest does before the tests functions are ran?

So far I read Python Testing with Pytest book to know
pytest reads conftest.py and the configuration files such as the pytest.ini file or the tox.ini, setup.cfg, or pyproject.toml files that contain a pytest section. Pytest also collects the all the tests before running the tests.

But I would like to know the exact order and also see this in the documentation.

The closest ordered reference is the pytest hook API. At a high level, pytest finds the configuration and loads plugins / relevant conftest.py files, calls pytest_sessionstart, performs pytest_collection (including pytest_collection_modifyitems and pytest_collection_finish), then enters pytest_runtestloop. For each collected item, pytest_runtest_protocol runs setup, call, and teardown reports in that order.

There isn't one fixed order for every plugin's implementation of a hook: wrappers and tryfirst / trylast affect their order, as the hook ordering guide explains. pytest --trace-config --collect-only is useful when you want to see which plugins and conftest.py files load and which tests are collected in your project.
