Snapshot nodes for images and links carry a `url` attribute that was printed in full. Images embedded as `data:` URLs (base64 PNG/JPEG/SVG) and links with long tracking parameters added thousands of characters per node to `take_snapshot` output. Truncate `url` attributes to 255 characters, the limit the network request list already uses. Both formatters now share a `truncateUrl()` helper.

Other URLs stay whole, since the snapshot is the only place where the agent can read a link's full URL.
Chrome lowercases the scheme and strips leading whitespace before it reports a node's URL, so a case-insensitive regex is not needed.

Problem
take_snapshotprinted each node'surlattribute in full. Images embedded asdata:URLs (base64 PNG/JPEG/SVG) add up to 10,000 characters per node(Chrome's own cap on this attribute). That data costs tokens and does not help
the agent.
Change
take_snapshottruncatesdata:URLs inurlattributes longer than 255characters and appends
... <truncated>, in both the text output and thestructured content.
https:, etc.) stay whole, since the snapshot is the only placewhere the agent can read a link's full URL.
formatters now share a new
truncateUrl()helper insrc/utils/text.ts.The network request list output does not change.
Accessible names are unaffected: Chrome does not derive an image's name from
src. Images withoutaltkeep an empty name; the URL appears only inurl.Benchmark
take_snapshotoutput onmainvs. this branch, in characters. Savings arecomputed on the same
mainsnapshot, since the change only touchesdata:URLs over 255 characters.
127 pages tested; 102 loaded (the rest showed bot-check pages to headless
Chrome or timed out). The pages above changed; the others are identical.
UI libraries that render icons as inline
<svg>(MUI, Ant Design, Chakra,Mantine, shadcn, Fluent) are not affected, because inline SVG markup is not
part of the accessibility tree.
Testing
truncates long data url attributes in text and JSON output(fails on
main).keeps long non-data url attributes in full.truncateUrl().npm run testpasses locally (macOS, Chrome for Testing 155).🤖 Generated with Claude Code
