Workspace Agent Gandalf: Welcome to Your First Issue

Hi @ruotongg! I am Gandalf. Great job successfully opening an Issue!

I am here to bring a little magic to the interaction experience and keep this learning journey fun while you build real skills.

Remember, a good Issue for a human is also a perfect prompt for an AI. By carefully describing the problem here, you are already practicing how to command your custom Capstone Agent tomorrow!

    Keep up the great work!

This is an automated message from Gandalf, your Workshop Agent.

    @DebeeArmstrong

How did you get your own private repo in the learning room? I haven't figured out yet how to do that so I can submit an issue.

Hi @DebeeArmstrong , apologies for the late reply! I don't have a clear understanding of what happened in the learning room that day, but I can provide a rough timeline about how things happened for me.

    • I was directed to enroll in the course and the action bot created this issue for me.
    • I clicked into the classroom link, skipped the identifiers list, and got an error message saying I don't have access to the classroom content and need to contact the instructors.
    • [Email: @github-classroom[bot] has invited you to collaborate on the Community-Access/welcome-to-git-going-with-github-ruotongg repository]
    • I asked Michael and Jeff to help me with the error message, and they added me manually to the organization.
    • Github action started creating issues for my learning sessions in the private repo.

I hope this somehow helps! When I left the learning room, they said they would trial on the classroom feature a little more to make the process fully automated.

    Your learning room is ready

Hi Ruotong, thank you for your patience - and our sincere apology. A fault in our provisioning system on our side meant your private learning room was not created when you enrolled. That fault is fixed, monitored, and will not affect you again.

Your learning room now exists and an invitation is on its way to you:

    Your repository: https://github.com/Community-Access/learning-room-self-paced-2026-ruotongg

    How to accept your invitation

    1. Check your email for a message from GitHub with "invitation" in the subject, or open your GitHub notifications (the notification bell, or https://github.com/notifications).
    2. Activate the View invitation link, then the Accept invitation button.
    3. If you cannot find the invitation email, open your repository link above while signed in to GitHub - the invitation banner with the Accept button appears at the top of the page.

GitHub invitations expire after seven days. If yours has expired or anything does not work, reply here or open a support issue and we will send a fresh one the same day: https://github.com/Community-Access/support/issues

    What to do first

    1. Accept the invitation and open your learning room repository.
    2. Read the README - it orients you to how the room works.
    3. Open the Issues tab and start with Challenge 1. Every challenge has instructions, an "If You Get Stuck" section, and a worked reference solution.
    4. Work at your own pace. All chapters, appendices, and podcast episodes are at https://community-access.org/git-going-with-github/

When your invitation works, please reply ack on this issue so we know you are in.

You enrolled, you waited longer than you ever should have, and you are exactly who this workshop is for. You belong here.

    Your first challenge is ready

Hi @ruotongg, a heads-up that your learning room now has its first challenge open and assigned to you:

Challenge 1: Find Your Way Around: https://github.com/Community-Access/learning-room-self-paced-2026-ruotongg/issues/1

Our provisioning system had a fault that left new learning rooms without their challenge issues. That is fixed, and your room is fully ready.

Each challenge issue contains the full instructions and an "If You Get Stuck" section. When you finish a challenge, add your evidence as a comment and close the issue - Gandalf will open the next one automatically.

If anything does not behave, reply here or open a support issue: https://github.com/Community-Access/support/issues

    You belong here.
