The fallback matrix now shows how to catch a strict fallback, log the exception's actual message/args interface with the requested backend, and select the native representation-repair path. It includes the exact emitted error text, explains that structured backend/trigger fields and error codes are not currently exposed, and demonstrates a data-free configuration preview and an explicit pandas alternative.

Closes #497.

Validation: mkdocs build --strict passes without MkDocs warnings. Both documented Python examples were executed against the current checkout; the exact message, exception args, lazy native result, configuration preview, and explicit pandas conversion were verified. git diff --check passes. This is a single documentation-file change.

The existing floating-Polars matrix failure on main is addressed separately by #518; this documentation change does not alter backend behavior.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added an example showing when Polars raises FallbackError under a strict fallback policy, including the diagnostic message and how to inspect it.
    • Documented a conservative Polars configuration for compatible inputs, while noting that other configurations or input shapes may still require fallback.
    • Added guidance on configuration and ingestion fallback previews.

📝 Walkthrough

The fallback matrix adds a Python example for catching FallbackError and a Polars-lazy example with guidance on fallback previews and explicit pandas use.

The example remains understandable, but readers who copy it will not see the full diagnostic mapping, including the error type and args structure. Printing the mapping is a small, localized correction before merge.

LGTM! Accurately documents the FallbackError interface and native escape hatches for #497 with exact runtime messages. Strict docs build passes. Ready to merge (nit: consider removing the unused PlanGenerator import in the snippet on line 82).
