📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Build Options
    • Added an optional fast-math setting for libcudacxx builds. It is disabled by default and adds the fast-math compiler flag when enabled with the NVIDIA CUDA compiler.
  • Tests
    • Expanded automated testing for CUDA 13.x with GCC 13 on T4 GPUs, covering C++20 fast-math configurations for libcudacxx, Thrust, cudax, and CUB.
    • Added libcudacxx test coverage for fast-math compiler settings.

The pull-request matrix adds fast-math lanes for libcudacxx, Thrust/cudax, and CUB. A CMake option controls fast-math flags for libcudacxx compiler targets and tests.

Changes: Fast-math CI coverage

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configure libcudacxx fast-math flags
libcudacxx/cmake/LibcudacxxBuildCompilerTargets.cmake, libcudacxx/test/libcudacxx/CMakeLists.txt
The advanced LIBCUDACXX_ENABLE_FAST_MATH option defaults to OFF. When enabled, --use_fast_math is added to CUDA compiler-target options and, for NVIDIA CUDA, test compiler flags.
Add fast-math test lanes
ci/matrix.yaml
The matrix adds lanes for libcudacxx, Thrust/cudax, and CUB using CUDA 13.X, GCC 13, C++20, and a T4 GPU. All lanes set CUDA compiler fast-math flags. The libcudacxx lane also sets test compiler fast-math flags.

AI failure analysis

1. libcudacxx fast-math lit run fails strict floating-point assertions · 1 job

Explanation: The new matrix configuration runs the full libcu++ lit suite with `--use_fast_math`, but lit has no fast-math feature for excluding or adapting tests that require host/device identity, preserved subnormals, exact conversions, special-value behavior, or strict accuracy. The workflow-summary and CI jobs only propagated the missing success artifact from this job and are omitted.

Repository: https://github.com/NVIDIA/cccl
Workflow run: https://github.com/NVIDIA/cccl/actions/runs/40015730518
Failure group: libcudacxx fast-math lit run fails strict floating-point assertions
Affected jobs:
- libcu++ nvcc GCC / Wc / [CTK13.4 GCC13 C++20] Test(amd64, T4): sm{75} -DCMAKE_CUDA_FLAGS=--use_fast_math -DLIBCUDACXX_TEST_COMPILER_FLAGS=--use_fast_math: https://github.com/NVIDIA/cccl/actions/runs/40015730518/job/120634336440

Fix the libcudacxx fast-math CI configuration. Reproduce narrowly with CTK 13.4, GCC 13, C++20, SM75 and the ten failed lit tests listed in the CI log. Replace the duplicated raw flags in `ci/matrix.yaml` with `-DLIBCUDACXX_ENABLE_FAST_MATH=ON`, then expose that option to lit as a `fast-math` available feature through `libcudacxx/test/libcudacxx/CMakeLists.txt` and `lit.site.cfg.in`. Add motivated `UNSUPPORTED: fast-math` gates to tests whose documented contract fundamentally requires strict IEEE behavior—especially host/device comparison, subnormal preservation, and exact fpemu/fpmp conversion tests—and make accuracy expectations fast-math-aware only where meaningful, without weakening normal-mode coverage. Verify the feature appears in lit's `available_features`, precompile and run all ten affected tests in both normal and fast-math configurations, then run the focused libcudacxx fast-math lit target.
