Changes only the opening sentence of autodiff, so that the JAX series can publish the same file (QuantEcon/lecture-jax#357). John and Matt decided on 2026-10-12 that programming and JAX publish one autodiff text (QuantEcon/project-monorepo#111). This series' copy is that text apart from this sentence.

Now Proposed
"This lecture gives a more thorough introduction to automatic differentiation using Google JAX, building on our brief preview." The last words link to jax_intro. "This lecture gives an introduction to automatic differentiation using Google JAX."

Why the sentence changes. It links to this series' own JAX preview, jax_intro, which the JAX series cannot resolve: its preview is jax_intro_jax, and its build maps no other site. jax_intro already points forward to this lecture, so readers still find their way here.

For John: the wording is a proposal. Any sentence that names neither series' preview will do.

Translations. On merge, the sync carries the changed sentence to this series' five editions.

Programming and JAX both publish autodiff. John and Matt decided on
2026-10-12 that the two copies become one text (project-monorepo#111).
Programming's copy is that text, except its opening sentence, which
links to this series' own JAX preview and so cannot stand in JAX.

This changes only that sentence; the JAX series takes the same file.

🟢 Approval recommended

The change is a single self-contained documentation sentence edit that removes a series-specific link without breaking any remaining jax_intro references.

What changed in this PR

This PR changes only the opening sentence of the autodiff lecture's Overview section so the same source file can be shared and published by both the Python Programming series and the JAX series (per QuantEcon/lecture-jax#357). The previous sentence linked to this series' own jax_intro preview, which the JAX series cannot resolve, so the link is removed in favor of a neutral sentence that names neither series' preview.

Changes:

  • Replaced the opening Overview sentence with a shorter version that drops the {doc} cross-reference to jax_intro.
File Description
lectures/autodiff.md Rewrites the first Overview sentence to remove the series-specific jax_intro link so the file works in both the Python and JAX series.
