Functional callbacks now see the same reserved row metadata in live queries, Effects and inline includes. A projected $key: 'spoof' can no longer change a functional predicate because of query placement.
The maintainer extended the callback-input contract to fn.select(), fn.where() and fn.having(). Direct source rows and structured whole-source spreads expose genuine $key, $origin, $hasPendingWrites and $collectionId. Projections that create their own row shape expose none of those reserved fields to downstream source-input callbacks. Inline include values retain their authored selected shape, including when a predicate runs without a selection.
The compiler carries a normalized callback view beside each authored row occurrence. FROM, joined-source and union adapters preserve that view. Callbacks receive it after private-state removal. Final output also removes private state. This keeps callback filtering independent of the authored inline value and preserves genuine source metadata.
The compilation cache retains separate authored and normalized results in two slots. Reusing the same QueryIR on one graph preserves callback input and authored output across compilation orders. The compiler oracle checks raw output against separate-cache execution, without assigning an unsupported metadata policy to Effect roots.
Separate compilations also exposed an ordered-loading defect. Registering the later top-K replaced the earlier window's loading plan, so widening that earlier window could leave rows missing. Registration now combines the live requirements of every window on that source. Each top-K keeps its own window and setter. Nested ordered queries also retain every joined dependency. Public Collection and Effect results wait for all those sources, including while an acquisition remains pending.
The replay oracle keeps failure verdicts per subscription. A sibling acquisition cannot clear another subscription’s failure. The release workflow exposed another failure on both main and this branch. An include with no demand at truncate could fail while its sibling replay still loaded. The guard now retains that failure during every pending replacement. A successful sibling load cannot expose incomplete output.
🔬 Oracle evidence
The coverage map and versioned nine-item audit retain the law, source hashes, failure traces, calibrations and limits. All nine findings have fixes. The record preserves historical gaps in the original pre-edit receiving inventory.
Law: The October 28 O12 decision governs selection inputs. The October 30 maintainer decision extends it to functional predicates while preserving authored inline output. Optional-cache transparency and ordered-window completeness remain independent guarantees.
Reach: The metadata owner executes 4,290 receiving histories across five callback forms, seven source paths and four receivers. It reaches all 22,502 callback, inline/rejection and compiler states. Real Effects check both event channels, every value and previousValue, continuity, exit/reentry and disposal silence. Another 144 ordered histories reach all 432 initial, moved and returned states. A further 128 joined-dependency histories reach 256 held and settled states across Collection and Effect receivers.
RED: Before callback production edits, the extended metadata owner rejects 1,102 comparisons among 4,923 tests. The new Effect receiver also rejects 203 comparisons on the actual PR base. Before the ordered fix, its extended owner rejects 48 histories among 424 tests. The original 280 ordered tests pass. The later joined-dependency extension rejects 24 comparisons before its production fix. Setup and recorder errors remain separate from these comparison failures.
GREEN: Before the replay fix, the integrated size refactor passed 6,533 tests across 16 files. These include 4,923 metadata-owner tests and 552 ordered-owner tests. Focused TypeScript, ESLint, formatting, whitespace and pnpm lint:changed pass. Earlier CI checked the unchanged documentation examples. This branch includes merged fix(db): classify Effect deltas from result membership #2301.
Mutant: Final source-bound checks reject a WHERE-only fix in 551 comparisons and normalization of every predicate pipeline in 696 authored-output comparisons. Losing the cache mode fails 26 comparisons. Restoring ordered-plan overwrite fails 48 comparisons. Joined-dependency overwrite, last-only and first-only controls fail 24, eight and eight comparisons. Earlier FROM/JOIN/union mode omissions each fail 112 compiler comparisons. These failures reach the intended judgments.
Limits: The finite metadata grammar bounds recursion at two QueryRefs, joins at one LEFT join, and mutation at one held successful update. The compiler-cache receiver checks initial graph drain. Union optimization can clone branch IR, so that path establishes propagation and transparency without demonstrating an original-key cache hit. The original ordered receiver checks a controlled compiler/loader boundary. The joined-dependency extension checks real core receivers with controlled acquisition timing, one inserted head row and at most two joined dependencies. Public window-promise integration retains its existing neighboring coverage. Grouped selected-context attribution differs from local source-input metadata. Static metadata and P11/P12 literal/type gaps remain open. Arbitrary descriptors, deeper recursion, overlapping writes, other joins, truncate, construction-failure cleanup and provider/framework timing need separate evidence.
The loading-sibling replay record binds the later guard fix separately. The extended primary fails on unchanged branch production before the guard change. The finite grammar then passes 48 histories with failure, retirement, and own-recovery reach of 44, 33, and 12. The full replay owner passes all 45 tests. The old guard fails the intended retention comparison. The record preserves the historical recovery-reach gate limitation. PR #2318 carries the same fix to main and constructs the SQLite final catch-up boundary. Its two 80-history campaigns and two existing final-delivery replays pass.
📦 Shipped size
Shared FROM/JOIN compilation and input wrapping remove duplicate implementations. Container copying, include replacement, projection and ordering also share smaller paths. The refactor preserves the accepted behavior, oracle grammars and run budgets. It also removes a redundant NaN branch after Object.is and an unnecessary guard before object spread.
pnpm size:compare --packages db --files measures production bundles. The repository has no size:check script. Against merge-base a2f346596, the full package drops from 109,658 B to 109,595 B gzip. The typical app drops from 96,591 B to 96,527 B. Package Brotli drops by 47 B. Typical app Brotli grows by 21 B. Every measured scenario shrinks with gzip.
The branch includes main’s distinct-collision and subscription-restart changes. The documentation conflict resolution preserves both appended coverage entries. The earlier 6,533-test run includes restart publication, replay and distinct-collision receivers. All 14 compiler fingerprints remain unchanged after the replay fix. Final-head CI remains pending.
The size record binds the refactored sources to the final tests and seven rejected hostile controls. CodeRabbit remains paused after 8464ec977. Its latest completed review does not cover the later production fix or this refactor.
✅ Checklist
I have tested this code locally with pnpm test.
Targeted tests passed with at most two workers. Targeted size builds used existing dependencies. The full repository suite and dependency installations did not run.
🚀 Release Impact
This change affects published code, and I have generated a changeset.
This change is docs/CI/dev-only (no release).
The changeset requests a patch release for @tanstack/db.
Request-error checker and bounded scope
Review 5719714297 found an oracle exemption that combined sibling subscriptions by source keys. The checker now retains subscription identity for later requests and coverage. Production lists the injected error in the distinguishing histories. A targeted omitted-error control passes the old account and fails the new health comparison. The existing 96-history grammar reaches that assertion in four histories.
The coverage-map owner remains the primary load-subset replay oracle. Its bounded claim covers held include failures during a loading sibling replay, demand retirement, and later own recovery. It observes core Collection rows and request-error identity after commands, quiet loading, and authoritative recovery. The versioned amendment records calibration, reach, intermediate failures, and limits.
All 45 primary tests pass on this branch. Focused TypeScript, ESLint, formatting, whitespace, and changed-file checks pass. ESLint retains two existing warnings. The full pnpm test suite did not run. This follow-up changes only the oracle and evidence. Runtime code and the measured shipped-size results remain unchanged.

Summary
Define callback metadata and expected shapes packages/db/src/query/compiler/route-metadata.ts, packages/db/src/query/compiler/types.ts, packages/db/tests/query/virtual-row-fields-input-oracle.ts
The compiler adds internal callback metadata and stores compilation results separately by metadata mode. The oracle defines expected source, projection, inline, and output shapes.
Transport callback views through compilation packages/db/src/query/compiler/index.ts, packages/db/src/query/compiler/joins.ts, packages/db/src/query/compiler/parent-routes.ts
The compiler carries callback views through FROM, joins, subqueries, and unions. Functional WHERE, SELECT, and HAVING callbacks receive extracted views. Authored selected output remains separate.
Combine ordered-source metadata and test windows packages/db/src/query/compiler/order-by.ts, packages/db/tests/query/ordered-compiler-cache-driver.ts, packages/db/tests/query/ordered-work-oracle.property.test.ts
Repeated references to a lexical source combine window bounds, data demand, and full-source requirements. The receiver tests initial, moved, and returned windows.
Exercise callback, inline, and cache histories packages/db/tests/query/virtual-row-fields-input-driver.ts, packages/db/tests/query/virtual-row-fields-input-oracle.test.ts, packages/db/tests/query/compiler/basic.test.ts, packages/db/package.json
The receiver and oracle test callback inputs, outputs, inline forms, cache modes, and lifecycle cuts. Compiler tests inspect result tuples, and the oracle test is added to the test:oracles command.
Compare replay failures by subscription packages/db/tests/query/load-subset-replay-refinement-oracle.test.ts
Replay checks now associate loads with subscriptions and compare replay failures within the rejecting subscription. A generated campaign checks own- and sibling-subscription comparisons.
Document coverage and release details packages/db/src/query/live/ARCHITECTURE.md, docs/contributing/oracle-coverage.md, docs/contributing/oracle-reviews/*, .changeset/fix-correlated-callback-metadata.md
The documents describe callback-input rules, receiver coverage, replay-error comparisons, runtime results, and stated limits. A patch changeset records the package update.
Some replay tests may identify the wrong failure in mixed-subscription histories. The issue is confined to the test oracle.

packages/db/src/query/compiler/index.ts:514 Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Key cached results by publishCollectionRoot.
The cache currently uses only rawQuery. Recursive compilation can reuse the same CompilationResult when the same uncorrelated QueryIR is compiled with publishCollectionRoot = false and true. These modes use different callback and output metadata handling, so the wrong result can expose incorrect reserved metadata in derived query results.
Store one result per publication mode in the existing cache.

Avoid building callback-only views for ordinary root output.
finalizeRow computes callbackSelected for every row. For non-fnSelect rows, this calls transformPublicContainers, attachVirtualPropsToSelected, and route stripping, then carries the result in tuple position 5. Keep this work only for paths consumed by a source adapter callback view.

Preserve an earlier joined-filter dependency when the later plan has none.
An ordered inner query with a cross-alias WHERE can register joinedFilterSourceId. If an outer ordered query orders through that same QueryRef source without its own join, the later plan sets this field to undefined. The spread at this merge erases the dependency.
OrderedSourceLoader.loadMore() then skips hasPendingJoinedWork() and can load the ordered page before the joined source is ready.

🎯 Changes
Functional callbacks now see the same reserved row metadata in live queries, Effects and inline includes. A projected
$key: 'spoof'can no longer change a functional predicate because of query placement. The maintainer extended the callback-input contract to
fn.select(),fn.where()andfn.having(). Direct source rows and structured whole-source spreads expose genuine$key,$origin,$hasPendingWritesand$collectionId.

The replay-account audit records the separate test fix.

CodeRabbit remains paused after
8464ec977. Its latest completed review does not cover the later production fix or this refactor.✅ Checklist
pnpm test.Targeted tests passed with at most two workers. Targeted size builds used existing dependencies. The full repository suite and dependency installations did not run.
🚀 Release Impact
The changeset requests a patch release for
@tanstack/db.Request-error checker and bounded scope
The full
pnpm testsuite did not run. This follow-up changes only the oracle and evidence. Runtime code and the measured shipped-size results remain unchanged.Summary by CodeRabbit
