OpenCut is being rewritten from the ground up. What's coming:
- An Editor API
- First-class third party plugins (made possible by a plugin-first architecture)
- Desktop, mobile, and browser from one codebase (Rust core)
- MCP server (for AI agents)
- Headless mode (automation, batch rendering)
- A scripting tab directly in the editor
You can still find the previous version at opencut-app/opencut-classic, which is the one to reach for today. opencut.app still runs the classic version. The rewrite will live at new.opencut.app until it's ready to take over.

The /editor route now provides a local browser editing workflow inspired by the archived OpenCut Classic layout: media library, program monitor, inspector, and timeline. It supports local video, audio and image import, placement on video/audio tracks, text overlays, playback, clip movement, splitting, trimming, deletion, timeline zoom/snapping, edit-point navigation, and Space/S/Delete editing shortcuts. Media search, sorting, unused filters, and grid/list views are available in the left dock.
The reusable controls in apps/web/src/components/editor/ are also consumed by OpenScene through its OpenCut submodule. They accept host data and callbacks. OpenScene keeps its project, timeline, export, and mobile editing rules in its own shared core.
The browser editor currently keeps imported media in memory for the tab session. Reloading the page clears it. The Export WebM button records the local timeline at 1280 × 720, including visual layers, basic brightness/contrast/saturation/opacity adjustments, overlapping clip fades, text overlays, and active video and audio clip sound. Recording takes the timeline's full running time; keep the tab open and visible. It requires browser support for MediaRecorder, WebM, and canvas capture. The Classic project's full effect catalog and other transition types are not implemented here yet.
