EF Me
(EF = Executive Function)
A tool to overcome (instances of) executive dysfunction

Original desiderata:

  1. Character-by-character fidelity to the flowchart for all UI copy.
  2. A Candy Crush aesthetic -- not anything about the game itself, just in terms of the presentation. The idea is to captivate even the most ADHD-brained person.
  3. Prominently credit the source (jackalwedding on Tumblr)

Possible streamlining

I'm not sure yet if it makes sense to drop the numbered steps.
Eg, when we hit "Great job! Move to step 2." that could just be "Great Job!" with a button that says:

Go to "Can you start the task?"
Another example: "Do DBT worksheet on willfulness. Go to step 4." could become:
Do DBT worksheet on willfulness
[button1] I did it
[button2] I don't want to!!
and then if you click button 1 you get sent to "Are there other reasons you can't start the task?" (previously known as step 4) and if you click button 2 you get:
Ok, just go to "Are there other reasons you can't start the task?"
[button3] No!!!
and when you click that, another button appears below it:
[button4] Fine.

A maybe easier thing:

  1. Know what you need to do? --> Yes
  2. Can you start? --> No
  3. Why are you having trouble getting started? --> MOTIVATION: I don't want to do it
  4. Can you do it for just 10 minutes? --> That still sounds bad
  5. Why? --> I'm worried I'll fail.
  6. "Go to Step 4."

Is there any value in seeing nothing but "Go to step 4" and having nothing to click but "OK Go"? I'm not sure. So far we're erring on the side of faithfulness to the flowchart.

Bug [fixed]:

  1. Know what you need to do? --> Yes
  2. Can you start? --> No
  3. Why are you having trouble getting started? --> Not sure why
  4. MINDFULNESS --> Still don't know
  5. WELLBEING --> No
  6. No, I need something --> EMOTIONAL
  7. Can the need be met? --> Yes
    Unreadable page.

Bug in the flowchart itself [fixed]:

  1. Know what you need to do? --> Yes
  2. Can you start? --> No
  3. Why are you having trouble...? --> SENSORY...
  4. Needs met? --> No
  5. Emotional or physical? --> Physical [or emotional, doesn't matter]
  6. Can need be met? --> No
  7. Other reasons you can't start? --> No
  8. Did you actually follow/try the suggestions?

Being asked the question in step 8 there doesn't make sense since the user hasn't been offered suggestions in this path of the flowchart.
