Summary

When a dev session parks a story at awaiting-operator, the loop skips review. If that build pass also set followup_review_recommended: true, the recommended review never ran, and nothing recorded that it was still owed: the flag survived only in state.json. This PR carries the recommendation to everywhere an operator looks:

  • Park record (.bmad-loop/operator/<key>.json) and the story-awaiting-operator journal row carry followup_review_recommended. For a dev park it is the dev pass's flag; for a review-demotion park it is the last review pass's. Covers sprint and tickets mode.
  • ParkedStory.followup_review_recommended reads it back. A record that predates the field, or holds a non-bool, reads None (unknown), never False.
  • Park notification adds a line saying the follow-up review is still owed after confirming.
  • confirm --list prints follow-up review recommended at park time: run it after confirming under the story's actions.
  • confirm --json and status --json carry the field. Both changes are additive, so CONFIRM_SCHEMA_VERSION stays 1; a legacy record emits null.
  • confirm success output adds follow-up review still owed: invoke bmad-build-auto on <spec or plan path> ….

A story with no recommendation, or a legacy record, prints exactly what it printed before.

The park short-circuit is unchanged: a park is still never reviewed. Nothing goes to the deferred-work ledger, per the DW-55/64/90 doctrine in _journal_review_budget_spent (such tickets re-litigate a converged story's review, and a sweep would turn them into generic fix bundles).

Procedure: review after confirm

The escalations guide and the tickets guide now document the procedure. Confirm first, then invoke bmad-build-auto on the now-done spec (in tickets mode, the plan: done, or built under mark_done = "never") and commit what the pass patches. bmad-build-auto routes both statuses to a fresh follow-up pass, and confirm rewrites only status, so the spec's own recommendation survives.

Reviewing before confirm does not work: the build skill does not route a parked spec. A v6 awaiting-operator spec falls through to new intent or halts, and a v7 parked plan reads blocked, which the skill refuses. If the owed action is a manual test, the guide says to review the parked work first with a review that leaves the spec's status alone (e.g. bmad-code-review over the park commit), or to re-test if the post-confirm pass patches code.

Residual

Reviewing a story before it parks would need upstream bmad-build-auto to route an awaiting-operator plan, and upstream doesn't support that today. Flipping the park to done ahead of a review would break the rule that the review launch never mutates the spec's status, and in tickets mode it would also need a new plan-transition reason. This is deferred until the upstream skill supports it, and is not ledgered.

Changelog

### Fixed: Keep a parked story's follow-up review recommendation. The park record, the story-awaiting-operator journal row, the park notification, confirm --list/--json, confirm's success output and status --json now carry followup_review_recommended, and the escalations and tickets guides give the post-confirm review procedure. A park still never runs the review.

Test plan

  • tests/test_operatoractions.py: True/False round-trip; a missing key and a non-bool both read None.
  • tests/test_engine.py: a dev park with a recommendation records it (journal row + committed record) and still runs no review session; a False recommendation is recorded as False (present, not absent); a review-demotion park records the last pass's flag; the notification line appears only for True.
  • tests/test_tickets_engine.py: a ticket park record carries source/ref and the flag.
  • tests/test_cli.py: the confirm --list line for True/False/legacy; confirm --json is True/False/null; the confirm success hint names the spec (sprint) and the plan (tickets, mark_done = "never"), and is absent for False and legacy records; status --json carries the task field.
  • Every new test was ablated: removing the field write or the print fails it. A None-as-truthy variant and a null→false variant also fail.
  • uv run pytest -q -n logical: 17008 passed, 116 skipped. uv run pyright: 0 errors. trunk check clean on the changed files. tests/test_docs_hygiene.py green.

Closes #888

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Parked stories and tickets now retain build-recommended follow-up reviews. The recommendation appears in confirmation listings, JSON status, journal entries, and park notifications. After confirmation, the CLI indicates when to run the review.
  • Documentation
    • Updated guides and CLI references to explain that parking skips the review, how to run it after confirmation, and how older park records are represented.

t added 2 commits October 26, 2026 12:01
A park skips the review loop, so a follow-up review the build session
recommended never runs, and the flag survived only in state.json. The
`story-awaiting-operator` journal row and the committed park record now
carry `followup_review_recommended` (the dev pass's, or the last review
pass's for a review-demotion park), `ParkedStory` reads it back (None for a
record that predates the field or holds a non-bool, never False), and the
park notification tells the human to run the pass after confirming.

The park short-circuit is unchanged: a park is still never reviewed, and
nothing goes to the deferred-work ledger.
…irm and status

`confirm --list` prints a `follow-up review recommended at park time` line
under a parked story's actions, `confirm --json` and `status --json` carry
`followup_review_recommended` (null for a park record that predates the field,
never false), and a successful `confirm` names the spec or plan to hand
bmad-build-auto for the owed pass. The escalations and tickets guides give the
procedure: confirm first, then review the done (or built) spec, because the
build skill does not route a parked one.

The park short-circuit is unchanged and nothing goes to the ledger.
CONFIRM_SCHEMA_VERSION stays 1: the fields are additive.

Walkthrough

Parked stories now retain the build session’s follow-up review recommendation in the park record and journal. CLI and JSON output expose the recommendation, and the guides describe running the follow-up review after confirmation. Parking still skips the review.

Awaiting-operator results now carry the recommendation. Park records and journal entries store it. Resolution preserves true and false, and returns null for missing or non-boolean values. Tests cover story and ticket parks and confirm that parking skips the review.

Parking now preserves the follow-up review recommendation. A malformed (quoted) frontmatter value could produce a spurious follow-up reminder; this is a narrow edge case and is mergeable with a small follow-up fix.

Explanation

The changed engine, operator record, CLI surfaces, tests, documentation, and changelog all support issue #888. They preserve and expose the skipped review recommendation and document the post-confirm procedure. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 86.96% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 23 functions across 7 files. (5 skipped: 2 unsupported, 3 too large.)

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #888 expects a recommended follow-up review to run before the story parks at awaiting-operator. The reviewed code still appends story-awaiting-operator and calls _notify_park without running that review. The change preserves the flag and documents a post-confirm procedure, but it does not implement the issue's primary pre-park behavior.

Resolution

Implement supported routing for followup_review_recommended: true so the follow-up review runs before the awaiting-operator park, and add tests that verify the review runs before the park. If the upstream build skill cannot support this routing, update the issue or dependency before claiming the primary objective is complete.

And JSON shows it clear and right.

…nthesis

The park record read the flag from the dev result, but `synthesize_result`
only carried it on a success status and `_followup_from_spec` gated on the
same, so a real generic-path park always recorded False. Carry it on
`awaiting-operator` too, and let the fallback read a parked spec.

The confirm hint now names the dev primitive the review session would drive
(`bmad-dev-auto` on a pre-rename install), and FEATURES says the operator
runs the owed pass.
