DietPi as an LXC container: a Debian 13 container converted with DietPi's own installer. DietPi v10.7 (released 12 Sept) added GUEST_NETWORK_REQUIRED for containers with their own network stack, which is what makes this workable without any manual network repair afterwards. The script leaves the network to Proxmox, keeps the container hostname and the SSH keys from the advanced settings, and updates through dietpi-update.
Restart the container once after creation; DietPi's interactive first run setup starts at the next login.
SSH server, locale, software picks and more can be preconfigured in /boot/dietpi.txt before that restart.
A root password set in the advanced settings is applied to root and the dietpi user at that restart. Without one, both get the password dietpi.
Note: This is not in the official repo yet—it's just a dev version! After merging into ProxmoxVE, it will need to be recreated.
One thing to know before testing this with the default settings: without a root password the web console currently logs in with TERM=-, DietPi's first run setup dies on its first tput call and you are left at a bash prompt. It is the agetty line from #2258, not something in DietPi. #2298 takes care of it in the install script until the line in core is fixed.
If you already created a container and ran into it, this in the container gets you a fresh login where the setup starts:

Containers created with a root password in the advanced settings are not affected, there is no autologin override in that case.
