Why

The maintainer wants the plugin to carry resources for the services the platform runs. Coroot, the platform's observability stack, serves its own MCP endpoint, but it couldn't be bundled with #656, because the platform first had to let agents reach it. devantler-tech/platform#5881 does that: it adds a Viewer service account and an exact /mcp route past SSO.

What

  • coroot server, at ${COROOT_URL}/mcp. It covers application topology, alerts, SLO incidents, traces, PromQL metrics and logs.
    • Coroot checks every tool call against the caller's role, so a Viewer key can investigate but can't resolve alerts.
    • The address comes from Claude Code's environment, so no deployment's hostname enters this public repository.
  • scripts/coroot-mcp-headers.sh, its headersHelper. It sends the service account's API key from coroot-api-key in the plugin data directory, with no fallback. It refuses an empty, multi-line, malformed or unreadable key, and never prints the key.
  • Docs:
    • The README covers setup: the service account, COROOT_URL, the key file, and what Copilot, VS Code and Codex need instead.
    • docs/resources.md, docs/plugins.md and CONNECTORS.md (~~monitoring) list the new server.
  • Version 7.2.0.

Validation

  • coroot-mcp-headers.test.sh covers a valid key, a key in the environment being ignored, and ten refusals: missing, empty, spaced, JSON-breaking, two-line, a dangling link, a directory, a non-directory data path, an unreadable file and an unsearchable directory. It also covers the usage error.
  • validate-manifests.sh accepts the templated URL, and the duplicate-URL rule still passes.
  • check-skill-licenses.sh, the version-bump check, the desired-state digests, and the changelog and MCP-boundary tests pass.
  • Claude Code 2.1.317, with COROOT_URL unset: coroot reports Failed to connect — Missing environment variables: COROOT_URL, the other servers are unaffected, and nothing is suppressed.
  • Still to do: an end-to-end check against the live endpoint, once the platform change is deployed.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Coroot v1.28 and later serve an MCP endpoint at /mcp: application
topology, alerts, SLO incidents, traces, PromQL metrics and logs. It
needs a bearer token on every request and checks each tool call against
the caller's role, so a service account in the Viewer role lets agents
investigate without resolving alerts.

Add a coroot server whose address comes from COROOT_URL in Claude Code's
environment, and coroot-mcp-headers.sh, which sends the service account's
API key from coroot-api-key in the plugin data directory with no
fallback. Neither the address nor the key enters any repository. Without
them Claude Code reports one missing-variable error for coroot and the
other servers keep working.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The agentic-engineering plugin adds Coroot as an MCP server. Its configuration uses a helper to read and validate a service-account API key and provide a bearer header. The documentation describes endpoint setup, credentials, and client-specific configuration. Plugin version metadata changes from 7.1.1 to 7.2.0.

Possibly related PRs

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 01e03

Users who set an http:// Coroot address would send their service-account key unencrypted. The documentation also overstates that the Viewer key is read-only, since on Enterprise it can still write incident analysis. Enforce HTTPS in the helper and correct the read-only and version statements before merging.

11. **Improvements to a generic role belong upstream of the consumer that found them.** This
marketplace ships role behaviour that many deployments install, so a fix written into one

Correct the minimum Coroot version for the API-key setup.

Coroot added service accounts and API keys for the /mcp endpoint in v1.26.8. The stated "v1.28 or later" requirement rejects compatible v1.26.8 through v1.27.x installs. Give v1.26.8 as the minimum for the service-account key setup. State the /mcp endpoint minimum separately, if the docs need one. The same v1.28 minimum appears in plugins/agentic-engineering/CHANGELOG.md:5.

Qualify the read-only guarantee for Enterprise investigations.

Coroot documents that investigate_anomaly can persist an RCA onto an incident when a caller supplies incident_key. Coroot also says a Viewer can investigate. An agent given this Viewer key can therefore change incident data in that case, despite the statement that alert resolution is the only changing tool. Update this warning and the read-only server descriptions, or exclude that tool where strict read-only access is required. (docs.coroot.com)
