The process-wide authid swap is not isolated from other threads.
acquire_authid changes the ucred authid of the whole process, not only of the calling thread. g_appinst_mutex serializes AppInst calls only. Other threads keep running while the elevated authid is set. During that window, those threads include the API, scanner and ShellCore service. The window lasts for the full synchronous sceAppInstUtilInstallByPackage call, which can be long while the package streams. If restore_authid fails, the process keeps the elevated authid, and the code only logs the failure. Log the failure without the debug guard. Also check whether the elevated authid must last for the whole call. If only part of the call needs it, shorten the window.

Do not enforce a fixed 900-second limit on an install that is still progressing.
This check fails the entry 900 s after requested_at_us, even while bytes are still being served. A large base game from a USB drive can take more than 15 minutes to deliver and install. Lines 768-774 already detect a stall separately, using last_bytes_progress_us.
The blocked path in sm_pkg_install_service (Line 843-844) also skips service_entry while a game is running, but requested_at_us keeps aging. After the game exits, this check can fire on the first poll, even if the install finished.
The consequence is permanent: require_native_recovery pauses all package servicing until the process restarts. Measure the deadline from the last progress or activity, not from the request time. For example, use the later of last_bytes_progress_us and sm_pkg_server_last_request_us. Alternatively, apply a much larger ceiling that scales with total.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Merge the new range before you apply the capacity limit.
The early return at Line 212 runs when interval_count reaches SM_PKG_SERVER_COVERAGE_MAX. It runs before the code checks whether the new range touches an existing interval. With 256 disjoint intervals, a range that would fill a gap is dropped without any record. complete_locked can then never become true. The installer then keeps the server, and package_is_complete never runs. The entry ends in the timeout path and sets require_native_recovery. To fix this, merge the new range into a neighboring interval before you reject it for capacity. Alternatively, track coverage with a fixed-size bitmap of chunks.

Call shutdown on the connection sockets while the mutex is held.
sm_pkg_server_stop copies the socket numbers and releases the mutex. Then it calls shutdown on each copied number. During that gap, a worker can return from recv and close(fd). A different thread in the process can then get the same fd number. In that case, shutdown acts on an unrelated socket. Call shutdown inside the locked loop. The worker clears its slot under the same mutex before close, so the fd stays valid while the lock is held.

Validate the opened descriptor instead of the caller-supplied stat.
The callers run stat(path) first. sm_pkg_parse_file then reopens the path with open(path, O_RDONLY) and trusts st->st_size, st_dev, and st_ino. A replaced file or symlink swap between the two calls produces a candidate whose identity and size fields do not describe the bytes that were parsed. A shrunk file also makes every later read_at fail. Open with O_NOFOLLOW, call fstat(fd), check S_ISREG, and use the descriptor's metadata for source_size, the inode and device fields, and the fingerprint. As per the retrieved learning, validate the descriptor with fstat and do not re-resolve the path.

Do not mark installed-content packages as unstable.
sm_pkg_is_installed_content_path is true for permanent paths such as /user/app/.... This code puts that check in the same branch as stat and stability failures, so the branch also sets *ctx->unstable_found_out = true. A scan root that contains installed content then reports an unstable result on every scan. The scanner keeps scheduling stability retries, and USB scan-complete notifications are suppressed. Re-stat the manual package after the stability wait.
st comes from the stat call at the start of the function. sm_pkg_parse_file receives that st after wait_for_stability_fast returns. If the file was still growing at the first stat, the candidate records an outdated source_size. Call stat again after the stability check. The scan-tree package visitor uses the same order, so apply the same fix there.

Do not mark the scan root dirty on every watch-tree rebuild.
The watch-tree walk visits every existing .pkg file under the scan root. Each visit schedules a dirty targeted scan. The main loop rebuilds the watch trees after every full and targeted scan. Any static .pkg in a scan root therefore causes a new targeted scan after each stability interval, and this repeats without end. Remove this callback, or trigger the scan only on watcher events.

Update register_watch_pkg_visit so rebuilding the watch tree does not schedule a
dirty scan for every existing .pkg file. Remove this scheduling from the
traversal callback, or trigger scans only from watcher events; preserve the
callback’s required traversal behavior.

Hi @drakmor, Pls let me know if this is something you'd be interested in merging. I'd be happy to work on this further if so. |

Hi. There are a lot of changes here, so it needs to be tested. Perhaps it would be better to use a fixed folder as the source for the installation. |

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Keep package candidates separate from directory title deduplication.
If this visitor adds a patch PKG before a directory for the same title, try_collect_candidate_for_directory finds the PKG by title ID. It can discard the directory as a duplicate or remove the PKG when it prefers an installed directory. The scan then loses one installation path. Make the directory duplicate lookup consider only SCAN_CANDIDATE_DIRECTORY; apply the same rule to manual-file PKG candidates.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Do not spin on queued PKGs while a submit thread is active.
If one PKG is submitting and another is due, sm_pkg_install_next_wake_us returns the second PKG’s past deadline. sm_pkg_install_service cannot select that queued entry while g_pkg_submit_thread_started is true. This branch then repeats without reaching kevent, consuming CPU and delaying watcher events for the duration of native submission. Make the wake deadline reflect work the service can currently process, and arrange a wake when submission finishes.

The bridge clears sm_shellcore_bridge_install_armed only in the caller after sm_appinst_install_all(NULL) returns. The bridge handler checks the flag but does not clear it before redirecting the call. Therefore, another AppInstallAll call during the wrapper’s 200 ms delay can reuse the armed title and directory.
Disarm the bridge immediately after the native sceAppInstUtilAppInstallAll call and before the delay, or otherwise clear the flag on the first redirected call.

ShadowMountPlus could already mount images and folder dumps, but standalone
.pkgfiles still required a separate installer. This PR closes that issue with an opt-in native PKG installation. It supports base games, updates, and DLC using native AppInstUtil, with package discovery, ordering, source checks, and completion verification. The existing image/folder workflow remains unchanged, and the feature is disabled by default.
