I've had this on my computer for months but forgot I hadn't actually committed or opened the PR... Oops?
Anyway, as I asked about doing in #171, this adds a config entry to change where mods are loaded from, defaulting to the classic
Managed/Modspath. Tested at the time I wrote it and on/off since then and it's seemed to work fine so far; there have technically been two commits to master since, but they only touched the readme so I'd be quite impressed if they conflicted with it. (No idea if it's compatible with #164 or not though, I haven't looked too deeply since it seems that's still pretty WIP?)
