Replaces dawidd6/action-send-mail with hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action v0.2.0 (tag commit ede1191ef6ff3ac02c4f4d9efdf837ee517e11d7), per the 2026-09-02 ruling (standards spec §5.5/§9, PR hyperpolymath/standards#725). The whole file is replaced with the rsr-template-repo canonical, which — besides the uses: line — restricts the trigger to branch pushes (tag and deletion payloads mislabel Branch:/head_commit), sets timeout-minutes: 5, carries a deliberately per-run concurrency group, and grants only contents: read. How many of those are actual changes here depends on how far this repo's copy had drifted — read the diff, not this list. Dormant gating on vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' is unchanged. Line 1 SPDX header kept as it was.

Engine: .git-private-farm/scripts/smtp-notify-sweep.sh. Verification for this repo: regime=lock pristine=valid post=valid changed=.github/workflows/actions.lock,.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml, sig=G a3f5c25 canon=543fc1474b54 base=main
(pristine/post = gh actions-lock --no-fix validity before/after; repair = the lock was already invalid before this change and is valid after it.)

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Updated push notification workflow configuration.
    • Notifications now run specifically for branch pushes.
    • Added safeguards to allow concurrent runs without cancellation.
    • Limited notification jobs to five minutes.

Walkthrough

The push notification workflow now filters branch pushes, excludes tag and deletion events, prevents concurrent runs from cancelling each other, limits jobs to five minutes, and uses a pinned replacement SMTP action.

Changes

Push email notification workflow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Push event scope and concurrency
.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml
The workflow documents activation and SMTP requirements. The push trigger excludes tag and deletion events. Per-run concurrency does not cancel active runs.
Notification delivery limits
.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml
The job has a five-minute timeout. The workflow uses hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action@v0.2.0 with the existing SMTP inputs and notification content.

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to a3f5c

When enabled, branch deletions may send malformed or unwanted notifications, and SMTP delivery may fail if the configured server requires STARTTLS rather than implicit TLS. Resolve these compatibility and event-filtering issues before merging.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Exclude branch-deletion payloads before sending email.

branches: ['**'] excludes tag refs, but it does not exclude branch-deletion push payloads. When PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED is true, the notify job can therefore send an email without a real commit message. Add a github.event.deleted != true guard to the job condition. GitHub documents branch deletion as a possible push workflow case. (docs.github.com)

Proposed guard
   notify:
-    if: ${{ vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' }}
+    if: ${{ vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' && github.event.deleted != true }}

Confirm the SMTP transport mode before enabling this action.

secure: true selects implicit TLS. STARTTLS is not implemented. If secrets.SMTP_PORT targets a STARTTLS-only endpoint, the notification step can fail on every enabled push. Confirm that the SMTP endpoint supports implicit TLS, normally on port 465.
