bug: ion-select with popover interface causes aria issues #30410
I have searched for existing issues that already report this problem, without success.
Ionic Framework Version
v8.x
Current Behavior
Blocked aria-hidden on an element because its descendant retained focus. The focus must not be hidden from assistive technology users. Avoid using aria-hidden on a focused element or its ancestor. Consider using the inert attribute instead, which will also prevent focus. For more details, see the aria-hidden section of the WAI-ARIA specification at https://w3c.github.io/aria/#aria-hidden.
Element with focus: <ion-radio.sc-ion-select-popover-md md in-item radio-label-placement-start radio-checked>
Ancestor with aria-hidden: <ion-popover.select-popover md popover-side-bottom#ion-overlay-4>
Expected Behavior
No aria issue
Steps to Reproduce
Just using the ionic example given in the documentation causes the problem when copied into my app.
Verified on 9.0.8. This is the same issue as #30040: on Android, the select popover set aria-hidden on itself as it closed, while the option you had just tapped still had focus, so Chrome blocked it and logged the warning. #30563 fixed it in v8.7.4: update to 8.7.4 or later and the warning goes away with no other changes. The earlier comment links #30240, but that one is a separate issue about navigating between pages and doesn't apply to ion-select.
Closing this as a duplicate of #30040, where the full details are.
