bug: [Ionic 9] ion-refresher throws "Make sure you use: <ion-refresher slot='fixed'>" error #31404

Closed as duplicate

Description

@bipoza

Prerequisites

Ionic Framework Version

v9.x

Current Behavior

When migrating to Ionic 9 (or starting a completely fresh installation), the ion-refresher component is throwing the following console error:
[Ionic Error]: [ion-refresher] - Make sure you use: <ion-refresher slot="fixed">.

Furthermore, because of this issue, the pull-to-refresh functionality is completely broken. The ionRefresh event does not fire at all when pulling down, making it impossible to trigger the refresh logic.

Expected Behavior

The ion-refresher should work without throwing console errors, and the ionRefresh event should trigger correctly when the user performs the pull-to-refresh gesture, just like it did in previous Ionic versions.

Steps to Reproduce

You can reproduce this easily from a fresh installation:

  1. Create a fresh Ionic 9 project (e.g., ionic start my-app blank --type=react).
  2. Add the <IonRefresher> and <IonRefresherContent> components inside <IonContent>.
  3. Try to perform the pull-to-refresh gesture.
  4. Open the console and observe the error: [Ionic Error]: [ion-refresher] - Make sure you use: <ion-refresher slot="fixed">.
  5. Notice that the custom function attached to the ionRefresh event is never called.

Note: You can also see the exact same console error happening in the official docs example here:

Hey! Thanks for the report. This issue has been reported previously and resolved in #31377, you can find the dev build there if you want to try it out. Note you will still need to add slot="fixed" to your refresher, but it won't work unless you use the dev build or until the patch version with the fix releases tomorrow

Also, if you could link where in the docs you found that stackblitz without the slot added, that would be great. In the v9 docs they should all have slot="fixed", but I must be missing where you found this one.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I meant that even with slot="fixed", the error persisted. I'm attaching a screenshot to show what I mean.
