TLDR

Summary

Migrates the repository to @koobiq/design-tokens v4:

  • web/new/** import paths → web/** in the docs and Storybook.
  • The codemod rewrites: --kbq-background-overlay-theme → color-mix(…), --kbq-foreground-{success,error}-less → -tertiary.
  • The old --kbq-palette-* usages are gone (scrollbar fallbacks dropped, the useMediaQuery story now uses --kbq-plt-*).
  • Component tokens that v4 ships as opt-in files (component-tokens*.css) are loaded the same way as the design tokens themselves — explicitly, file by file. Storybook's preview and the installation snippet in docs/0-welcome.mdx import both trios.
  • Component tokens that v4 removed entirely are now owned by the library:
    • CodeBlock.module.css declares the filled/outline container tokens on the component root.
    • Markdown.module.css declares the markdown tokens, aligned with koobiq/angular-components' markdown-tokens.scss: private --markdown-* defaults with public --kbq-markdown-* override points (var(--kbq-markdown-*, var(--markdown-*))), so overrides inherit from any parent.
  • @koobiq/design-tokens is bumped to ^4.1.0 (root devDependency and the components package dependency + peer).
  • A temporary @koobiq/design-tokens: ^4.1.0 override in pnpm-workspace.yaml keeps the hoisted copy on v4 while the starter templates still pin the published @koobiq/react-components@0.36.0, whose peer range is ^3.17.2.

After the release

  • Update the starter templates as a pair: @koobiq/design-tokens → ^4.1.0 and @koobiq/react-components → the released version. Bumping tokens alone would pair them with the old components, whose peer range and styles expect v3.
  • Remove the temporary @koobiq/design-tokens override from pnpm-workspace.yaml.

Notes

  • The FileUpload dropzone overlay uses the codemod's color-mix(…) composition, which is not pixel-identical to v3 — worth a screenshot pass.
  • tsc currently fails on the branch in Menu, Navbar, SelectNext, TreeSelect and TagList (unrelated @react-aria / react-primitives export errors).

Walkthrough

The pull request updates design-token dependencies and stylesheet imports to version 4. It revises token usage in component and Storybook styles, and adds fallback defaults for Markdown styles.

Changes: Design token v4 migration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update token dependency and imports
package.json, packages/components/package.json, pnpm-workspace.yaml, .storybook/manager.tsx, .storybook/preview.ts, docs/0-welcome.mdx
Dependency requirements and the workspace override use @koobiq/design-tokens version ^4.1.0. Storybook and welcome-guide imports use paths under web rather than web/new. Component-token styles are imported for Storybook preview and documented for selected welcome-guide use cases.
Adapt component and Storybook styles
packages/components/src/components/CodeBlock/CodeBlock.module.css, packages/components/src/components/FileUpload/components/FileUploadDropTargetOverlay/FileUploadDropTargetOverlay.module.css, packages/components/src/styles/utility.module.css, .storybook/manager-head.html, packages/core/src/hooks/useMediaQuery/useMediaQuery.stories.tsx
CodeBlock adds local style values and dark-mode overrides. The file-upload overlay uses a mixed background. Utility styles use updated semantic tokens, and the Storybook sidebar and useMediaQuery story use updated color variables.
Add Markdown fallback tokens
packages/components/src/components/Markdown/Markdown.module.css
Markdown styles define defaults for sizing, spacing, colors, and link focus outlines. Component-specific Markdown variables fall back to these defaults when unset.

Explanation

The title "feat(components): migrate to @koobiq/design-tokens v4 (#DS-5598)" names the primary change. The PR migrates the repository from design tokens v3 to v4, which updates the dependency ranges, Storybook and docs import paths, and the component and Markdown styles. The title is specific and matches the changeset. It does not describe every file, which is expected.

Use existing v4 size tokens for Markdown dimensions.

These declarations hard-code values that v4 already provides as size tokens: for example, 4px is --kbq-size-xxs, 8px is --kbq-size-s, and 12px is --kbq-size-m. Replace matching literals throughout the new size declarations so Markdown follows application size-token overrides. (github.com)

As per coding guidelines: “Visual values come from @koobiq/design-tokens CSS custom properties (--kbq-*). Don't hard-code a value that has a token.”

…he component

The markdown tokens now mirror koobiq/angular-components'
markdown-tokens.scss: v4 global references instead of the verbatim v3
HSL values. Declared under :where(.kbq-markdown) with zero specificity,
so consumer overrides always win; the Markdown host carries the
kbq-markdown class.

Drop the separate markdown-tokens.css: the tokens now live in
Markdown.module.css under :where(:global(.kbq-markdown)), keeping zero
specificity so consumer overrides always win.

🔵 Needs a closer look

It is a broad token migration whose correctness rests on manually reconstructed component tokens and many changed visual screenshots that need human visual verification, and the author notes tsc currently fails on the branch.

What changed in this PR

This PR migrates the repository from @koobiq/design-tokens v3 to v4. It updates import paths (web/new/** → web/**), applies codemod token renames, drops palette fallbacks that v4 no longer provides, and — importantly — re-homes component tokens that v4 removed entirely (CodeBlock container tokens and the Markdown token set) so the library owns them locally. It fits into the styling layer of the component library, where visual values come from --kbq-* CSS custom properties.

Changes:

  • Bump @koobiq/design-tokens to ^4.1.0 across root/components (dep + peer) with a temporary pnpm-workspace.yaml override, and update token import paths in docs and Storybook.
  • Apply codemod renames: --kbq-foreground-{success,error}-less → -tertiary, --kbq-background-overlay-theme → color-mix(--kbq-background-overlay-base-theme …), --kbq-palette-* → --kbq-plt-*, and drop removed palette scrollbar fallbacks.
  • Declare removed component tokens locally: CodeBlock filled/outline container tokens in CodeBlock.module.css, and the Markdown token set in Markdown.module.css under a new global kbq-markdown class.
File Description
pnpm-workspace.yaml Adds temporary @koobiq/design-tokens: ^4.1.0 override
pnpm-lock.yaml Regenerated lock reflecting the v4 bump/override
packages/core/src/hooks/useMediaQuery/useMediaQuery.stories.tsx Switches demo background to --kbq-plt-* palette tokens
packages/components/src/styles/utility.module.css Renames -less→-tertiary foregrounds; drops removed palette scrollbar fallbacks
packages/components/src/components/Markdown/Markdown.tsx Adds global kbq-markdown class to the root
packages/components/src/components/Markdown/Markdown.module.css Declares the full --kbq-markdown-* token set locally
packages/components/src/components/FileUpload/.../FileUploadDropTargetOverlay.module.css Replaces removed overlay token with a color-mix(…) composition
packages/components/src/components/CodeBlock/CodeBlock.module.css Declares removed code-block container tokens locally + dark-theme overrides
packages/components/package.json Bumps design-tokens dep + peer to ^4.1.0
package.json Bumps root design-tokens devDependency to ^4.1.0
docs/0-welcome.mdx Updates token import paths and documents component-tokens imports
.storybook/preview.ts Updates token imports; adds component-tokens trio
.storybook/manager.tsx Updates token import paths
.storybook/manager-head.html Replaces removed --kbq-tree-default-text-color with --kbq-foreground-contrast

I verified the migration is complete (no leftover --kbq-palette-*, web/new/, *-less, overlay-theme, or tree-default-text-color usages remain), that locally declared CodeBlock/Markdown tokens are consumed by their stylesheets, and that version bumps are consistent across all manifests. I filed one non-blocking note about the PR description referencing a markdown-tokens.css file and a light/dark split that the code does not actually use.

Public --kbq-markdown-* variables are no longer declared on the component:
defaults are private --markdown-* variables in .base, and every usage reads
var(--kbq-markdown-*, var(--markdown-*)), so overrides set on a parent
inherit into the component. The kbq-markdown class is no longer needed.
