RandomNameGeneratorLibrary generates random people's names and US place names from Census lists, and the names of real stars. It is one NuGet package with no dependencies and no network calls, for any .NET from Framework 4.6.2 to .NET 10.
dotnet add package RandomNameGeneratorLibrary
using RandomNameGeneratorLibrary;
var people = new PersonNameGenerator();
var places = new PlaceNameGenerator();
var stars = new StarNameGenerator();
Console.WriteLine(people.GenerateRandomFirstAndLastName()); // for example "Deneen Vanvolkinburg"
Console.WriteLine(places.GenerateRandomPlaceName()); // for example "Prophetstown"
Console.WriteLine(stars.GenerateRandomStarName()); // for example "Alpha Muscae"- Getting started: install it in a project, a script, F#, PowerShell or Unity, and make the first call.
- API reference: every public type and member, with what it returns and throws.
- Recipes: seeded test data, dependency injection, distinct names, usernames, filtering the lists, bulk output, CSV files.
-
Reproducible names: how seeds work, what stays the same across runtimes and versions, and how each method draws from
Random. - Name lists and data sources: where the names come from, how many there are and what was done to them.
- Versions and upgrading: every release, and what to expect when moving from 1.2.2.
- FAQ: repeated names on .NET Framework, odd names, gender odds, accents, size, thread safety.
- Development: building, the tests, the golden contract, rebuilding the lists and releasing.
- The README has the full usage notes and a table of example output; nuget.org shows the same file.
- The CHANGELOG lists every release since 1.2.2.
- The package page: https://www.nuget.org/packages/RandomNameGeneratorLibrary
- Try it without installing at https://www.markdavidrogers.com/tools, or through that site's MCP server tool
random_name. - Questions and bugs go to the issues.
