Summary

Adds dashboards and dashboard widgets to the v2 client, for the /api/v2/workspaces/{slug}/dashboards/ endpoints added in makeplane/plane-ee#7936.

from plane.models.v2 import CreateDashboard, CreateWidget

dashboard = client.v2.workspaces.dashboards.create("acme", CreateDashboard(name="Engineering", project_ids=[project_id]))
widget = dashboard.widgets.create(CreateWidget(
    name="By priority", chart_type="BAR_CHART", chart_model="STACKED",
    x_axis_property="PRIORITY", y_axis_metric="WORK_ITEM_COUNT", group_by="STATE_GROUPS",
))
chart = dashboard.widgets.chart(widget.id)   # chart.data, chart.chart_schema, paging fields
everything = dashboard.widgets.charts() # every widget's first page in one call

What's added

Methods
client.v2.workspaces.dashboards list, iterate, retrieve, create, update, delete, copy, widget_types
client.v2.workspaces.dashboards.widgets list, iterate, retrieve, create, update, delete, chart, charts
  • Dashboard rows come back as LoadedDashboard, so dashboard.widgets.* needs no ids repeated. A loaded workspace reaches workspace.dashboards.
  • chart(page=, column_page=, row_ids=): row_ids is sent as the JSON array the API expects. charts(widget_ids=) returns one entry per widget with its own status and either chart or error.
  • Models live in plane.models.v2.dashboards. Create bodies only accept the 20 chart types the API creates.

Generated constants

_generated/constants.py is regenerated from the golden this SDK was built on (plane-ee a8a1a9f43be, which reproduces the current file exactly), plus only paths/dashboards.json and the 17 schemas it references. The diff is additions only, all dashboards_* / widgets_*. A regen from today's golden would pull in about 12k unrelated lines, including renamed operations, so that's left for its own PR.

Behaviour worth knowing

  • Reads are lenient where the server stores free text: Widget.chart_type, chart_model, last_used_filter, x_axis_date_grouping, y_axis_metric are str, and Dashboard.access is int (older rows can carry the retired 2). Write models keep the fixed choices.
  • widgets.update sends null only for the four axis fields (x_axis_property, x_axis_date_grouping, y_axis_metric, group_by), which clears them; a None elsewhere is left out, since the server can't store null there. Dashboard fields are cleared with empty values ([], {}, {"json": {}, "stripped": ""}).
  • pql_filters is {"stripped": "<PQL>"}; json is optional editor state. Charts read filters or pql_filters.stripped per last_used_filter, never rich_filters; sending only pql_filters switches last_used_filter to pql_filters.
  • charts() never fails for one widget (each carries its own status/error), charts at most 50 widgets per call, and returns [] without a request for widget_ids=[]. chart(row_ids=...) takes the table's None row. A bare string for either id list is refused instead of being split into characters.
  • chart_schema is the server's schema key, renamed because it shadows pydantic's BaseModel.schema.

Test plan

  • Offline v2 suite (pytest tests/v2 --ignore=tests/v2/integration): 1043 passed, 2 skipped, including 38 tests in tests/v2/test_dashboards_resource.py.
  • ruff check plane/api/v2 plane/models/v2 tests/v2 and black clean; mypy has its existing 56 errors, none in this change.
  • An independent review of the PR against the server code; its findings are fixed and the review threads resolved.
  • Live, against a local plane-ee API on the #7936 branch, at the first commit: tests/v2/integration/test_dashboards.py 6/6, and the full live v2 suite fails only the same 15 environment tests as main. Not re-run since the follow-up commits, which change request bodies, docstrings and read types only.

Depends on

makeplane/plane-ee#7936. widget-types/ and widgets/charts/ must be on the server before this merges.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added v2 API support for listing, retrieving, creating, updating, copying, and deleting dashboards and widgets, including paginated and filtered listings.
    • Added navigation from workspaces to dashboards and from dashboards to widgets, plus widget type lookups, chart data retrieval, and batch chart retrieval.
  • Documentation
    • Updated v2 API documentation and examples to cover dashboards, widgets, and chart data.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for dashboard and widget operations, navigation, chart responses, pagination, filtering, and validation.

Adds client.v2.workspaces.dashboards and its .widgets child for the new
/api/v2/workspaces/{slug}/dashboards/ endpoints.

- Dashboards: list, iterate, retrieve, create, update, delete, copy and
  widget_types. Rows come back as LoadedDashboard, which reaches
  dashboard.widgets with no ids repeated; a loaded workspace reaches
  workspace.dashboards.
- Widgets: CRUD plus chart() (page, column_page, row_ids) and charts()
  (every widget's first page in one call, per-widget status/error).
- Models in plane.models.v2.dashboards, typed from the OpenAPI golden.
- Generated constants regenerated from the golden the SDK was built on
  (plane-ee a8a1a9f43be) plus only the dashboards paths; additions only.
- Offline tests, tree/navigation sweep rows, and a live integration suite.

Comment thread README.md Resolved
…TCH can clear fields

- Widget (read) types last_used_filter, x_axis_date_grouping and y_axis_metric as str, so a
  stored "" no longer fails a whole widgets.list() page; Create/UpdateWidget keep the choices.
- widgets.update() sends explicitly-set None (exclude_unset) so group_by and the axis fields
  can be cleared; unset fields are still omitted.
- charts(widget_ids=[]) returns [] without a request.
- Docstrings: per-widget errors on charts(), charts never read rich_filters, last_used_filter
  default and the pql-only auto-switch, access needs the owner only when it changes,
  chart_schema is the server's schema key.
- Tests for each, plus pql_filters create and table chart paging.

…e; document clearing dashboard fields

- Dashboard.access reads any integer (older rows can carry the retired 2); writes keep 0/1
- Widget.chart_type / chart_model read as str, so a chart type the server adds later
  doesn't break a page
- UpdateDashboard documents clearing with empty values: none of its fields is nullable
- README: 20 of the 92 classes, with workspaces in the list

Remove workspaces from the leaf-resource list.

This contradicts the new navigable-resource list above. Workspaces.retrieve() returns a LoadedWorkspace with child resources, including dashboards. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

- Widgets.update sends null only for the four axis fields; None on any other field is left out
  (the server refuses null there, so one pass-through None used to fail the whole PATCH)
- pql_filters documented as {stripped, json?}; clearing uses the server's {json: {}, stripped: ''}
- CreateDashboard documents the public default; copy documents copying older dashboards as stored
- charts() documents the 50-widget cap; chart(row_ids=...) and charts(widget_ids=...) refuse a
  bare string instead of splitting it into characters
- tests: None on non-nullable fields, bare-string ids, charts without widget_ids, a chart error
  raised as PlaneAPIError, widgets.iterate paging
