Second stage of moq-dev/quest#518; finishes quest/m0/token-waste/child-lists.md.

Changes

  • remove() (src/core/edit.ts) again drops every epic's Required link to a quest it holds, so quest check --fix, quest rm, and the land daemon's base-merge prune migrate an old tree; --fix runs with no history (restored from feat!: epics list no children #518's caa32fc by reverting its transitional commits c5065a2, 9488d7a, 2d9c6da in src, test, README.md, assets/land-fix.md).
  • quest check errors on requires X, which this epic holds; ready/unblocked/requires drop the both-formats handling.
  • Tree migrated with quest check --fix (18 READMEs); prose in pins.md and flaky-quest.md updated.
  • assets/land-fix.md no longer adds the flaky quest's link to quest/m0/flaky/README.md.

Verified: bun run check, bun run test, quest check from source, and quest check built from origin/main against this head (73 documents ok), as queue-build.yml does.

Breaking: other repositories run quest check --fix on their pin bump past this (pins.md and pin-sync already say so).

Follow-ups

None recommended.

Restore the stripping #518 staged out: remove() drops every epic's Required
link to a quest it holds, so quest check --fix, quest rm, and the land
daemon's base-merge prune migrate an old tree, and --fix runs with no
history. quest check now errors on "requires X, which this epic holds".
Migrate this tree with quest check --fix, and the land fixer no longer
adds the flaky quest's link to quest/m0/flaky/README.md.

BREAKING CHANGE: repositories migrate with quest check --fix on their pin
bump past this commit.

Walkthrough

The change rejects Required links from an epic to documents it holds, including links from the root to milestones. Dependency expansion and ranking now retain these links alongside structural child relationships. Removal and quest check --fix clean up applicable links. Tests and documentation reflect the updated rules and migration.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review c4b5b

The change is mostly safe to merge. Unmigrated trees may show duplicate blockers in quest unblocked output. The land fixer may also produce disable commits that fail checks in repositories still pinned to an older validator. Both are minor, but the second should be settled before pins are bumped.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the main change: quest check now rejects epic READMEs that list their children. The raw summary confirms that src/core/rules.ts errors on a Required entry whose target the epic holds, and that the test and migration changes match. The title uses the conventional feat! prefix and is specific. It is 55 characters, within a normal length.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 8 functions across 10 files. (4 skipped: 4 unsupported.)

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is related to the changeset. It explains the second stage of the child-list migration, names the changed code paths (remove() in src/core/edit.ts, quest check --fix, ready/unblocked/requires), describes the tree migration of 18 READMEs and the pins.md and flaky-quest.md prose updates, and gives the breaking-change note for repositories bumping their pin. Level of detail is sufficient for the lenient check.

Reviewed f681f07 against base a98b0a2.

No actionable findings in the inspected changes. This consistently completes the second stage of directory-based epic membership: validation rejects redundant Required links to descendants, remove/check --fix strips those links only when the target exists, and external dependencies, Related links and mistyped paths remain intact. The migration still runs with no HEAD/MERGE_HEAD history, while retaining worktree and unresolved-conflict safeguards. Readiness and ranking no longer need the transitional duplicate-child handling once validation rejects that format.

The migrated tree and fixer instructions follow the new format, and tests cover root/milestone/epic migration, deeper descendants, preservation of real dependencies and typo reporting. Direction: retain the documented breaking-change migration on downstream pin bumps, and verify the migrated head with both the base-built queue checker and the new checker before landing.

Verification limits: GitHub-only static patch and surrounding source inspection. No builds, tests, quest checks or downstream pin migrations executed; reported passes were not independently reproduced. COMMENT only, not approval.

Reviewed update 3e64948 against base d742cea, comparing the previously reviewed f681f07 and subsequent base integration.

No new actionable findings. The follow-up changes address the compatibility concerns: blocker expansion now emits a child already present in Required only once, preserving the Required entry's description, while still emitting unlisted children. The land-fixer instructions permit parent links only when the consuming repository's older checker requires them, retaining the new directory-membership format otherwise. The core migration and validation changes remain as previously reviewed; the other differences account for base changes and completed quest references.

Direction: exercise both an unmigrated child-list tree and an older downstream checker when validating the compatibility fixes, alongside the new-format checker.

Verification limits: GitHub-only static patch comparison and surrounding source inspection from this review sequence. No tests, builds, fixer sessions or downstream migration executed. COMMENT only, not approval.

quest land watch: the merge queue removed this pull request at e735ae9 because it conflicts with main (merge_conflict).

The land fixer works on it in the background, and the watcher re-enqueues it at the back of the queue once it is fixed or judged flaky, or hands it back here with what it needs.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Incremental, base-aware review of fb62609 against e88f7a1, following review 5815204379 and intervening equivalent rebases.

No new actionable findings. The new post-move cleanup reloads the moved tree, removes Required links that have become redundant directory membership, stages the resulting edits, and deduplicates modified-path reporting. The added regression checks both the resulting tree and staged rename/README change. The extra fixLinks pass after heading promotion catches links newly exposed under Required while retaining the initial worktree/conflict checks before writes.

Direction: retain coverage for both moving a required quest into its requiring epic and promoting a malformed Required heading containing redundant/deleted links. The earlier compatibility and migration assessment is unchanged.

Verification limits: GitHub-only static patch comparison and complete move/fix helper inspection. No tests, Git commands, builds or migration runs executed. COMMENT only, not approval.

quest land watch: the merge queue removed this pull request at e9e2e0b because it conflicts with main (merge_conflict).

The land fixer works on it in the background, and the watcher re-enqueues it at the back of the queue once it is fixed or judged flaky, or hands it back here with what it needs.
