让 AI 真正属于你。 Make AI truly yours.
Nimi is an installable, open-source, local-first personal AI product: use AI apps, talk with AI characters, and explore different worlds in one place — choose local or cloud AI, and build apps of your own.
Download status · Website · Documentation · Releases · Discord
Nimi is currently in active development from source, and public installable packages are coming soon. The repository is available for development, exploration, and contribution. Using Nimi requires a Nimi account (sign-in via browser). See the Download page for current per-platform status and release updates.
- Use apps. Free Nimi apps cover work and creation, life management, and interests — writing, organizing, images, audio, family records, personality exploration, and personal rhythms.
- Meet characters and worlds. Talk with AI characters and explore the worlds they belong to.
- Choose your AI. Run models locally on your computer, or connect supported cloud capabilities. What you use is your choice.
- Create your own app. Build a local AI tool around your own tasks, steps, and results.
- Keep the same AI. Authorized apps can continue with the same LocalAgent and Conversation. Long-term memory stays private to that Agent; it is not automatically shared with other Agents or devices.
See nimi.ai for the product tour.
Every admitted app has a public source repository and an explicit open-source license. The current catalog includes:

Apps run in a protected local environment supervised by Nimi Desktop and Runtime via Developer Mode, local package imports (for development and private verification), or official Registry catalog releases. In the current development build, app installation, updates, and access controls are supported on macOS (arm64) and Windows (x86_64); package lifecycle on other platforms remains unavailable. Build something new, or adapt an existing project.
- Nimi SDK — one typed interface to local and cloud AI capabilities.
- Adapter —
@nimiplatform/sdk-adapter-vercel-aiconnects Vercel AI SDK 6 projects; install a release whose SDK peer range covers the SDK version you use. - Scaffold — create a local app project with the current complete App Tools archive (see the setup guide for matching SDK/Kit/native overrides):
pnpm dlx --package=file:./nimi-packages/nimiplatform-app-tools-0.11.4.tgz nimi-app create --profile standaloneStart with the Create a Nimi App guide and the first AI call. Adapter notes live in sdks/typescript.
- Source — the platform core (runtime, SDK, Kit, Proto) is open; the Realm implementation is not part of the public distribution. See LICENSE for the per-component map.
- Security — report vulnerabilities through GitHub Security Advisories or
security@nimi.ai. See SECURITY.md. - Code signing — the current signing scope and status are recorded in the Code signing policy.
- Local-first — conversations and AI work can run on your own machine with local models; cloud capabilities are used only when you choose them. Nimi still requires a Nimi account: signing in, account features, and Realm content such as worlds and characters use Nimi's online services.
Nimi is organized into clear architectural layers:
- Nimi Home (Desktop) — The desktop application housing your conversations, characters, worlds, and apps.
- Runtime — The local engine executing AI capabilities (local models or cloud providers), managing permissions, and supervising app execution.
- Realm — The identity and ecosystem service maintaining persistent characters and shared worlds.
- Avatar — The desktop embodiment carrier for interactive 2D/3D characters.
For full architectural details, protocol primitives, and domain ownership, see docs.nimi.ai/platform.
Product and component releases are separate and always name their owner: nimi/v<version> for the complete product, desktop/v<version> and runtime/v<version> for component deliveries, and per-package prefixes for libraries. Third-party apps release from their own repositories. See RELEASE.md and the Download page.
