resolves #1859

📚 Description

  • Fix an issue where resolving a stub entry fails when fsModuleCache is true and the entry is cached
  • Allow specifying optimizeDeps.noDiscovery in Vitest browser mode
  • Updated isolate-setup fixture to use fsModuleCache: true (Vitest 5.0.4 default)

Reporoductions:

before: https://stackblitz.com/edit/nuxt-test-utils-pull-1856-before?file=package.json
after: https://stackblitz.com/edit/nuxt-test-utils-pull-1856-after?file=package.json

I have verified the following: https://github.com/yamachi4416/reproductions/actions/runs/38892863532

  • In nuxt/nuxt, confirmed that tests pass when --fsModuleCache is specified.
  • In npmx.dev, it seems necessary to specify optimizeDeps.noDiscovery: true, and confirmed that tests pass when it is specified.

📝 Walkthrough

The Vitest configuration helper now accepts a full Vite or workspace config and sets dependency optimization options for the described cases. The root stub plugin always resolves matching IDs to its entry path. The isolated setup fixture now passes the test pattern through Vitest context and selects failure paths at runtime.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Severity of issue fixed: Low

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to ef6d7

Existing direct callers may get the wrong browser dependency settings, and a project module with the matching suffix may load the Nuxt entry instead. These cases warrant fixes or explicit acceptance, but the identified risk is limited.

Explanation

Issue [#1859] requires the repeated Vitest run to resolve the Nuxt stub entry. src/module/plugins/entry.ts now returns entryPath for every matching resolve request, including cached requests whose importer is not index.html. The isolate-setup fixture enables fsModuleCache: true and keeps setup failure-path coverage through globalSetup. src/config.ts also carries browser optimizeDeps settings through the full user config.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within the PR scope. The entry resolution change fixes the linked cached-entry failure. The optimizeDeps handling supports the stated Vitest browser-mode requirement. The fixture changes provide regression coverage for fsModuleCache and setup behavior. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Preserve the exported helper’s argument contract.

getVitestConfigFromNuxt previously accepted a VitestConfig as its third argument. The new implementation reads userConfig.test, so a caller that still passes VitestConfig as argument three can lose browser.enabled and receive optimizeDeps.noDiscovery: true. Preserve the old call shape, or provide a compatibility overload that normalizes both forms before reading the browser setting.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Restrict resolution to the root-stub request.

idFilter matches any ID ending in nuxt-vitest-app-entry. This handler now resolves every match, regardless of importer. If a project imports its own module with that suffix, the plugin redirects it to entryPath and loads the Nuxt entry instead. Use a discriminator that identifies the root-stub request while allowing its cached importers.

* chore: set up Vitest and Playwright with smoke tests

Vitest runs in the nuxt environment with specs next to the code;
fsModuleCache is off until nuxt/test-utils#1856 ships. Playwright
runs desktop and mobile 375px against the production build.

Closes #4

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test: select smoke targets by data-testid and never reuse an E2E server

reuseExistingServer could only find a server started by hand, i.e. a
stale build, so the E2E went green against old code. Smoke specs now
follow the data-testid rule, and vitest.config notes that server specs
need the node environment.
