… area outlined (opengeos#682, part 2) layout.publication takes "locator": "globe" (a sheet's default: a new map of the map's polygon layers on the globe, unlabelled, in a round frame at the map's top left, sized from the renderer's own globe disc), "inset" (the surrounding region on the map itself) or "none" (a figure's default). The map frame's extent indicator outlines the area on either; the legend stops short of it; undo takes the globe's map away with the layout. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The globe map is a full clone() of the active map, and only layers is filtered. tiles (web tile layers), basemap, swipe, time, graticule and service_groups/groups carry over, and the comment says "no raster or streamed layer … read again". render/src/tiles.rs draws map.tiles over the basemap. A map with a web tile basemap would then fetch and draw tiles on the small locator disc, and swipe/time could hide layers or clip it. Consider clearing these on the copy, e.g. m.tiles.clear(); m.swipe = None; m.time = None; m.graticule = false;, and dropping groups entries for the removed layers. Confidence: medium. I did not trace the globe renderer's handling of basemap.
Smaller: the clone copies every feature of every layer before retain drops the non-polygon ones. For a large project that is a transient memory spike. Polygon layers are also drawn unsimplified on a ~25–70 mm disc, which could be slow for dense layers.

Exclude the source map's basemap and tile layers from the globe locator.
The current filter only removes entries from m.layers. Globe rendering still draws map.basemap, map.graticule, and map.tiles, so tile imagery, overlays, and the built-in basemap can appear in a locator intended to contain only the active map's polygon layers.
Suggested fix

+ m.tiles.clear();
+ m.graticule = false;

Do not force the legend into the locator's space.
If a sheet's text leaves a map frame near the permitted 40 mm minimum, the locator is at least 25 mm high. The top and bottom reservations leave less than 10 mm for the legend. room_h.max(10.0) still gives the legend 10 mm, so its box can overlap the locator. When the available height is too small, omit or relocate the legend and add a warning instead of imposing a minimum height.
