v8.0.0

[8.0.0] - 05.08.2026

Breaking Changes

  • The following types and functions have been removed:

    • TableComponent enum
    • The modifiers module and Table::apply_modifier have been removed.
    • Table::current_style_as_preset
    • Table::set_style
    • Table::style
    • Table::remove_style
    • Table::load_preset
  • The positional preset string format has been replaced with the new TableStyle, LineStyle and ContentLineStyle types. The old approach of having "stringified" presets was too finicky and also implicitly bound to the order of variants in the old TableComponent enum. It was just not a good design.

    The new design, in comparison, has a nice and (hopefully) intuitive API to define a style. On top of that, all functions on TableStyle are const, so custom styles can still be declared as constants:

    const MY_STYLE: TableStyle = TableStyle::new()
        .top_border(LineStyle::new('┌', '─', '┬', '┐'))
        .header_lines(ContentLineStyle::new('│', '┆', '│'))
        .header_separator(LineStyle::new('╞', '═', '╪', '╡'))
        .content_lines(ContentLineStyle::new('│', '┆', '│'))
        .bottom_border(LineStyle::new('└', '─', '┴', '┘'));

    The new API looks as follows:

    • Presets in comfy_table::presets::* are now TableStyle constants.
    • Table::load_style(style) has been added to load a preset or custom style.
    • Table::style() and Table::style_mut() to get a handle to the style used by the table. The mut handle can be used to change the style.
    • Instead of modifiers, there are now functions on TableStyle TableStyle::with_rounded_corners/TableStyle::with_solid_inner_borders.
    • All fields of TableStyle, LineStyle and ContentLineStyle are public:
      table.style_mut().top_border.left = Some('╭');
  • The default truncation indicator is now … instead of .... This should make it more obvious that there's more text and consumes less visual space.

Fix

  • Various performance improvements that reduce table formatting time quite a bit:

    • ~36% for "normal" tables (The readme of the project). 17µs -> 11µs
    • ~34% for "larger" tables, which I would consider a reasonable usecase. 253µs -> 172µs
    • ~70% for very large tables, i.e. a 10x500 table. -> 20.8ms -> 6.15ms

    Most of these improvements boil down to:

3.0.3

  • Documentation improvements

3.0.2

3.0.1

3.0.0

This release contains adjustments to the syntax tree to account for ongoing Rust language development from the 3 years since syn 2.0.0 and to anticipate some in-flight Rust language RFCs.

These include: default values in fields, pinned type sugar, raw lifetimes, generator blocks and functions, unnamed enum variants, attributes in tuple types and tuple patterns, named arguments in parenthesized generic argument lists, lightweight clones, const traits, const function pointers, mutability restricted fields, supertrait auto implementation, final associated functions, trait implementability restrictions, const blocks in path arguments, item-level const blocks, return type notation, never patterns, function delegation, mutable by-reference bindings, in-place initialization, field projections, explicitly dyn-compatible traits, view types, file-level frontmatter, generic const arguments, guard patterns, lazy type aliases, explicitly safe foreign items, super let, unsafe fields, pattern types, heterogeneous try-blocks, function contracts, async function trait bounds, static closure coroutine syntax, unsafe binder types, move expressions, for-await loops, and postfix keywords.

Breaking changes

Modifiers

To reserve more room for language evolution, there are 10 new non-exhaustive structs in the syntax tree having the following commonality:

  • Name ending in Modifiers. {BlockModifiers, ClosureModifiers, ConstModifiers, FieldModifiers, FnModifiers, ImplModifiers, LocalModifiers, TraitBoundModifiers, TraitModifiers, TypeModifiers}

  • Each implements Default. The default value is guaranteed to comprise no tokens.

  • Non-exhaustive. Can only be instantiated by Syn's parser or by creating and then mutating ▁▁Modifiers::default().

  • Does not implement Parse. When parsing, they are parsed by the enclosing syntax tree node.

  • Does not implement ToTokens. In some cases the syntax that these nodes might hold in the future is not necessarily contiguous tokens.

  • Provides .require_empty() -> Result<()> which returns a meaningfully spanned error if the modifiers are different from the empty default. This enables a caller to reject syntax it does not recognize without knowing what that syntax may be.

Types

  • Type::BareFn has been renamed to Type::FnPtr to mirror the compiler's terminology. Together with this, BareVariadic is renamed to FnPtrVariadic.

  • The mutually exclusive const_token and mutability fields of Type::Ptr have been unified into an enum of type PointerMutability, which was already previously used by Expr::RawAddr.

  • Every Type variant now holds attributes, which can represent the attributes of element types inside a tuple type, or attributes for a function return type.

Release Notes 0.32

OpenTelemetry Rust 0.32 continues to drive the Logs, Metrics, and Distributed Tracing components forward. The Logs and Metrics API and SDK remain stable, with no breaking changes in this release. The OTLP Exporters and the Distributed Tracing API/SDK remain in pre-stable states (Release-Candidate and Beta respectively), and this release introduces a small number of intentional breaking changes in those areas to prepare them for stabilization.

For detailed changelogs of individual crates, please refer to their respective changelog files. This document serves as a summary of the main changes.

Key Changes

Metrics SDK

  1. Bound instruments (experimental): Added Counter::bind() and Histogram::bind() returning pre-bound measurement handles (BoundCounter<T>, BoundHistogram<T>). Bound instruments resolve the attribute-to-aggregator mapping once at bind time and cache the result, eliminating per-call HashMap lookups on the hot path. Benchmarks show ~28x speedup for counter operations and ~9x for histograms. Gated behind the experimental_metrics_bound_instruments feature flag.

  2. Delta collection efficiency: Delta metrics collection now uses in-place eviction instead of draining the HashMap on every collect cycle. Stale attribute sets that received no measurements since the last collection are evicted.

  3. Stable Aggregation API: Aggregation and StreamBuilder::with_aggregation() are now stable and no longer require the spec_unstable_metrics_views feature flag.

Logs

  1. Tracing-span attribute enrichment (experimental): The opentelemetry-appender-tracing crate can now copy attributes from active tracing spans onto each emitted log record. ("Span" here refers to tracing::span!, not an opentelemetry::trace::Span.) Enrichment is disabled by default with zero per-span overhead, and is gated behind the new experimental_span_attributes cargo feature.

  2. spec_unstable_logs_enabled removed: The capability (and the backing specification) is now stable and is enabled by default. The feature flag has been removed.

Distributed Tracing (Beta)

The Distributed Tracing API and SDK remain in beta. This release contains intentional breaking changes to clean up the public surface ahead of

New Contributors

Full Changelog: kube-rs/kube@4.0.0...4.2.0

4.0.0

New Major

As per the release schedule to match up with the latest Kubernetes ハル release. Lots of fixes and improvements. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Kubernetes v1_36 support via k8s-openapi 0.28

Please upgrade k8s-openapi along with kube to avoid conflicts.

CEL Validation

A new optional crate kube-cel is being re-exported through kube::core::cel via kube-rs/kube#1954

Kubernetes CRDs support CEL validation rules via x-kubernetes-validations, and were supported from 3.0 via KubeSchema, but these rules could only be evaluated server-side by the API server.

The new crate allows evaluating these rules locally using rules matching the upstream Kubernetes CEL libraries.

While low-level, a higher-level CEL validator integrates with CustomResource via #[kube(cel)] from kube-rs/kube#2011 and can be used as;

#[derive(CustomResource, Serialize, Deserialize, Clone, KubeSchema)]
#[kube(group = "example.com", version = "v1", kind = "Foo", namespaced)]
#[kube(cel, validation = "self.spec.replicas >= 0")] // cel trigger + validation rule
struct FooSpec { replicas: i32 }
</tr></table>

... (truncated)

Config

A lot of improvements to config handling;

  • better error handling of malformed client certs in kube-rs/kube#1966
  • add missing Kubeconfig fields in
