Summary

Versions already merged to main but not yet released stay pending in docs/packages/<pkg>.yaml. The commit on a package/<pkg> branch that links a release therefore re-triggered a build of all of them.

On a pull request from a package/* branch (and no version glob), _setup.yml now fetches the base branch's copy of docs/packages/<pkg>.yaml and passes it to ci_scripts/pending_versions.py --base-file, which skips versions the base already declares. Only versions the PR adds are built.

  • If the file doesn't exist on the base branch (new package), every version is new.
  • Pushes to main, PRs from other branches and manual dispatches with a glob behave as before.
  • docs/workflows.md documents the rule.

A package/<pkg> PR that only changes the build workflow and adds no versions will build nothing.

Testing

Ran pending_versions.py locally with a base file, a missing base file and no base file; results were as expected. The workflow itself has not been run.

Versions already merged to main but not yet released stay pending in
docs/packages/<pkg>.yaml, so the commit that links a release re-triggered a
build of all of them. On a PR from a package/ branch, skip versions the base
branch already declares.
