Summary

Adds an auditd dataset capturing PAM authentication-stack tampering (T1556.003) on an authorized lab host - the paired attack data for the Linux Auditd PAM Configuration File Modification detection submitted to splunk/security_content.

Details

  • Path: datasets/attack_techniques/T1556.003/linux_auditd_pam_backdoor/linux_auditd_pam_backdoor.log
  • Format: interpreted auditd type=SYSCALL / type=PATH / type=PROCTITLE records, source=auditd, sourcetype=auditd.
  • Captures two backdoor-install methods adding auth sufficient pam_permit.so to /etc/pam.d/common-auth:
    1. editor rewrite - sed -i → rename, producing a PATH CREATE on the PAM file (comm=sed)
    2. in-place append - tee -a, producing a PATH NORMAL on the PAM file (comm=tee)
  • Committed via git-lfs per the repo .gitattributes (datasets/**/*.log).

Auditd PATH+SYSCALL+PROCTITLE records captured from a reversible PAM
backdoor sim on an authorized lab host: an editor rewrite (sed -> rename,
PATH CREATE) and an in-place append (tee, PATH NORMAL) adding
'auth sufficient pam_permit.so' to /etc/pam.d/common-auth. For the
Linux Auditd PAM Configuration File Modification detection.
