@jar-stripe do you happen to know why this PR added str as an allowed type for most of the literals? Are we expected to handle cases where the API returns something else than the documented literal values?

Hi @Viicos, my apologies for the confusion here! The short answer is yes, for many of our enums, you may see values outside the range of what was documented at the time of the SDK release.

Many of our enums are "open", which means that old versions of the API will see values added in newer versions of the API; for example, if we add a new error code that is important for all of our users to understand and handle, we will backport that error code value to older versions of the API.

The change to add str to the Union was to ensure that these fields have the correct type for both the values known at SDK release time and other values that may be added later. If it is helpful, the latest version of the API Reference docs (on https://docs.stripe.com) will show the allowable set of values for these enums.
