Summary

  • Import the complete pinned XML Encryption 1.1 interoperability snapshot and include it in checksum and importer coverage.
  • Execute all 17 ciphertexts and all 13 original templates across compiled XML backends, with reciprocal encryption/decryption against libxmlsec1.
  • Cover corrupted protected values, malformed KDF parameters, and historical CBC padding expectations. Reject the two original DH ciphertexts because their credential has a composite subgroup order; validate the DH template with valid donor credentials instead.
  • Document the normative SHA-384 identifier versus the oracle's accepted alias without changing the product serializer.

Validation

  • Workspace all-feature suite with isolated SoftHSM: 4,392 passed, zero skipped.
  • Final strengthened interoperability suite: 5 passed, zero skipped.
  • Workspace all-feature build, all-target Clippy with warnings denied, formatting, and doctests passed.
  • C14N-only all-target check and host/bare-metal no_std + alloc checks passed.
  • Capability and behavior ledger checks passed.

Imported fixtures remain byte-for-byte upstream data, including existing whitespace.

Closes #211

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Expanded XML Encryption interoperability guidance, including AES-GCM support profiles, expected failures, and details about historical test vectors.
  • Tests
    • Expanded interoperability coverage for AES-GCM, RSA-OAEP, derived keys, ECDH, and DH scenarios.
    • Added checks across supported XML backends for encryption, decryption, malformed inputs, and fixture integrity, including NIST AES-GCM vectors for all three key widths.

Execute the complete pinned ciphertext and template inventory across XML backends, including reciprocal native-oracle checks and cryptographic failure cases. Preserve upstream payloads byte-for-byte and document normative departures in malformed DH credentials and SHA-384 spelling.

Closes #211

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds pinned NIST AES-GCM and XML Encryption 1.1 fixtures, includes them in fixture import and snapshot checks, and adds integration tests for decryption and reciprocal interoperability across available XML backends and xmlsec1.

Changes

XML Encryption corpus coverage

Layer / File(s) Summary
Register and track corpus fixtures
Cargo.toml, scripts/import-donor-fixtures.sh, tests/common/xmlenc_snapshot.rs, tests/fixtures/xmlenc/README.md, tests/fixtures/xmlenc/corpora.sha256, tests/fixtures_smoke.rs, tests/import_donor_fixtures.rs
Registers the xmlenc11_corpus test target and adds the NIST AES-GCM and XML Encryption 1.1 corpora to fixture import, snapshot, checksum, and inventory checks. The expected XML Encryption fixture count increases from 1002 to 1072.
Add XML Encryption 1.1 vectors
tests/fixtures/xmlenc/xmlenc11-interop-2012/*
Adds AES-GCM, RSA-OAEP, ECDH, DH, ConcatKDF, and PBKDF2 fixtures. The corpus README records padding differences in four CBC expected outputs and the key lookup method used by agreement tests.
Exercise fixture decryption across backends
tests/xmlenc11_corpus.rs
Defines fixture cases, credentials, and decryption policy. The tests check fixture inventories and compare decrypted plaintext across available backends.
Check reciprocal interoperability and invalid inputs
tests/xmlenc11_corpus.rs
Tests encryption and decryption with xmlsec1 and the library. Additional checks cover corrupted ciphertext, derived-key CBC output lengths, malformed KDF parameters, and the expected DH provider error.

The reciprocal interoperability test requires a supported xmlsec1 oracle and fails if it cannot run. No concrete merge-blocking behavior is established by the supplied change context.

417-417: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low value

Resolve shared key paths from CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR.

These lines use paths relative to the current working directory, such as tests/fixtures/xmlenc/keys/ec/... and tests/fixtures/xmlenc/keys/dhx/.... Other lines in this file resolve paths with env!("CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR"), for example in path() and in decrypt_case. Cargo runs integration tests from the package root, so the current form works under cargo test. If a test runs from another working directory, for example through cargo nextest with a different cwd or through a direct binary invocation, then xmlsec1 and fs::read cannot find the keys. Add one helper that joins CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR with tests/fixtures/xmlenc/keys, and use it at every site.

Also applies to: 424-426, 492-492, 499-499, 593-593, 622-625

Review comment at @tests/xmlenc11_corpus.rs at line 417:
Add a shared helper in the XML encryption tests that resolves the keys directory
from CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR, then use it for every key path passed to xmlsec1 or
fs::read, including the EC and DHX key paths. Keep key resolution independent of
the test process’s working directory.
