[BUG] MSI Raider 16 Max HX B2WI — No internal audio, missing SoundWire machine match (RT713 + dual RT1320) #6000

Open

Description

@ramsaranmichael

Description

Internal speakers are unavailable on the MSI Raider 16 Max HX B2WI running Bazzite Linux. The speakers work under Windows on the same machine.

The Intel SOF firmware boots, and the SoundWire codec/amplifiers are enumerated, but the kernel cannot find a matching SoundWire machine driver. It falls back to the generic HDA configuration, exposing only HDMI audio outputs.

Environment

Laptop: MSI Raider 16 Max HX B2WI

OS: Bazzite NVIDIA Open, version 44.20261012.1

Kernel: 7.2.9-ogc3.1.fc44.x86_64

Audio controller: Intel 8086:7f50, subsystem 1462:14fb

PCI address: 0000:80:1f.3

Driver: sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl

SOF IPC4 firmware: intel/sof-ipc4/arl-s/sof-arl-s.ri

SOF firmware version: 2.14.1.1

Fallback topology: intel/sof-ipc4-tplg/sof-hda-generic-idisp.tplg

SoundWire devices

Link 0:
sdw:0:0:025d:0713:01
Driver: rt712-sdca

Link 2:
sdw:0:2:025d:1320:01:0
Driver: rt1320-sdca

sdw:0:2:025d:1320:01:1
Driver: rt1320-sdca

Relevant kernel logs

No SoundWire machine driver found for the ACPI-reported configuration:
link 0 mfg_id 0x025d part_id 0x0713 version 0x3
link 2 mfg_id 0x025d part_id 0x1320 version 0x3
link 2 mfg_id 0x025d part_id 0x1320 version 0x3

using HDA machine driver skl_hda_dsp_generic now

Additional amplifier initialization error:

rt1320-sdca sdw:0:2:025d:1320:01:0:
rt1320_io_init: Unknown device ID 43947

Actual behavior

No internal speaker output in ALSA or desktop audio settings.

aplay -l lists HDMI devices only.

Only Pro Audio/Off profiles are available.

Updating Bazzite and rebooting does not resolve the issue.

Expected behavior

The kernel should recognize the RT713 codec and dual RT1320 amplifiers, load a compatible SOF SoundWire machine configuration and topology, and expose working internal speakers.

Investigation

The PCI driver uses the Arrow Lake-S descriptor and snd_soc_acpi_intel_arl_sdw_machines.

The existing Arrow Lake SoundWire matching table does not appear to contain an entry for RT713 on link 0 together with two RT1320 amplifiers on link 2.

The installed SOF topology files also do not appear to include an exact match for this configuration.

No custom kernel fix has been built or installed.

Request

Could the maintainers advise on:

Adding support for this SoundWire hardware combination.

Providing or identifying a compatible SOF IPC4 topology.

Investigating the RT1320 Unknown device ID 43947 initialization message.

Additional kernel logs and hardware information can be provided if needed.
