`npm install -g npm@latest` now resolves to npm@12, which requires node ^22.22.2 || ^24.15.0 || >=26.0.0, so the v2.7.0 release aborted on Node 20 before reaching build or publish. The step can't just be dropped: OIDC trusted publishing needs npm >= 11.5.1 and Node 20 ships 10.8.2. Node 20 also went EOL on 2026-04-30. Node 24 is LTS until 2028-04-30. Verified locally on 24.20.0: npm@latest installs (12.0.2), yarn install, yarn build and 380 tests all pass. Node 20 went EOL on 2026-04-30. unit-test.yml wasn't broken by the npm@12 engine bump the way release.yml was, but there's no reason to keep testing on an unsupported runtime once the release job has moved. .nvmrc aligns local dev with CI. Bare major so nvm tracks the latest 24.x, matching `node-version: 24`.
