Research: effects on top of pixel art (lighting, shaders, particles, post-processing) - #156

Conversation
Adds packages/core/genres/PIXEL-ART-EFFECTS.md: sourced principles for lighting, normal maps, shaders on sprites, runtime particles, camera shake, whole-frame passes (grading, bloom, CRT, depth of field), budget and judging, in the PIXEL-ART.md format and building on the pixel-art, fx and polish skills rather than repeating them. Repo-only: pack-check now fails if genres/ ships, and AGENTS.md says what the folder is. What
packages/core/genres/PIXEL-ART-EFFECTS.md: sourced research, in thePIXEL-ART.md/PROTOTYPE.mdformat, on the non-pixel effects a pixel-art game layers over its assets and what keeps them in the style. It covers lights, normal maps, shaders on sprites, runtime particles, camera shake, whole-frame passes (color grading, bloom, CRT, depth of field), budget, and judging. It builds on
ritmo-pixel-art,ritmo-fxandritmo-polishand doesn't repeat them. Juice amounts and toggles stay in POLISH.md, and asset rules stay in PIXEL-ART.md.The core idea: every effect is either inside the grid (drawn into the low-res frame at the game's pixel size) or above it (a pass over the finished, upscaled frame). The look breaks when an effect lands at a third pixel size. It also has a "Where we chose against a source" section (rotational shake, Medeiros's palette-ignoring post-processing) and a "Checked and not found" list.
About 30 sources, among them Celeste, Dead Cells, Graveyard Keeper, Shovel Knight, Blasphemous, Octopath II, Obra Dinn (via Zucconi), the Godot lights docs, Eiserloh, Swink, the SBGames normal-map study, the CRT pieces, XAG 117, and WCAG. Quotes were checked on 2026-11-01.
