About The Pull Request

Players were mass printing the Event Horizon rifle and deleting things with it. The rifle kit was a cheap tier-1 research print, and the cores it needs were effectively unlimited: Voidcrew removes tg's per-round core cap, so raw vortex cores could be ordered from cargo and refined over and over.

Event Horizon rifle

  • The parts kit is no longer in Unregulated Bluespace Research. The rifle is a weight-1 entry in the research cache's unique tier.
  • 3 shots, no self-charge, and no recharger, borg charger or inducer can top it up.
  • 20 seconds between shots. It keeps its scope and range.
  • Whoever the beam hits takes 200 burn damage across the whole body, so they die but are not gibbed. The reality tear still eats turfs and objects, but other mobs caught in it are only thrown around.
  • It can no longer be mounted in an emitter or portable turret (TURRET_INCOMPATIBLE). Those fired it on their own power, which skipped the shot limit and cooldown.

Anomaly core supply

  • The nine raw anomaly crates are hidden from the cargo console.
  • Boffin (Skunkworks, Quartermain Depot) has a new Anomalies tab with two weighted rotation shelves, 2 slots each, stock 1, sold-out slots swap at convoy restock:
    • Raw cores: 25k (flux, grav, hallucination, pyro), 30k (bioscrambler, ectoplasm, dimensional), 35k (bluespace, vortex).
    • Anomaly charts: 12.5k / 15k / 17.5k in the same bands.
    • Normal favor discounts and specials apply. Contracts never pay these out.
  • A chart puts a sealed rumor on the buying ship. Revealing it points the helm at a planet or a fresh derelict. The anomaly spawns only when that ship docks there, never on reveal and never for another ship. If the site is deleted first, the chart goes back to sealed.
  • The random raw core in the research loot table moves from uncommon to prime.

Planet anomalies

  • All nine anomaly types can now spawn on planets, at most one per planet, with a 5% / 15% / 25% chance in green / yellow / red.
  • They wander and keep their stock effects (vortex eats, dimensional rewrites turfs) and never time out. A leash component keeps each one on its site: off the landing strip, ships, the cordon, space and other z-levels.
  • The planetary pyroclastic anomaly no longer vents plasma. It shoots short visual flame jets that set mobs in them, or standing next to it, on fire. It never touches planet atmos.

No upstream files are edited apart from unit test includes. Nothing Voidworks reads changed, so there is no voidworks_api bump.

Why It's Good For The Game

The rifle was a cheap, repeatable way to delete people and ships. It is now a rare find with three shots. Anomaly cores become something you hunt or pay heavily for instead of an unlimited cargo order.

Testing

  • Compiles with 0 errors and 0 warnings.
  • New focused unit tests pass: cargo crates hidden, Boffin shelves and prices, favor pricing, chart purchase, anomaly spawning only on the buyer's dock, planet anomaly table, pyro jets leaving air untouched. The existing shop, launch-shelf, contract-reward and loot tests pass too.
  • voidcrew_launch_fresh_charts failed intermittently during testing, in overmap placement and transit area code this PR does not touch. Not checked against master.
  • Not playtested yet.

Changelog

🆑
balance: The Event Horizon rifle can no longer be researched. It is a rare research cache find with three shots, no recharge and 20 seconds between shots. It kills whoever it hits without gibbing them, and it no longer fits in emitters or turrets.
balance: Raw anomaly cores are no longer sold by cargo. Boffin sells a limited rotation of raw cores and anomaly charts, priced by rarity.
add: Anomaly charts lead your ship to a planet or derelict where an anomaly forms when you arrive.
balance: Planets can now have any anomaly type, rarely, with better odds in more dangerous zones. They move around and do full damage.
tweak: Pyroclastic anomalies on planets shoot flame jets instead of venting plasma.
/:cl:

The Event Horizon rifle kit is no longer researchable. The rifle is now a
research-cache unique with three shots, no recharge, a minute between
shots, on-screen range and a reality tear that no longer gibs mobs.

Anomaly cores are scarce again. Cargo no longer sells raw cores. Boffin
sells a limited weighted rotation of raw cores and anomaly charts, priced
by rarity. A chart points the buying ship at a planet or derelict, and the
anomaly only appears when that ship docks there. Planets get all nine
anomaly types on a per-planet chance by zone; they move and keep their
stock effects but stay on their site. The planetary pyroclastic anomaly
shoots flame jets instead of venting plasma.
The rifle keeps its upstream scope and range again, with 20 seconds
between shots instead of a minute. Whoever the beam hits takes enough
burn damage to die without being gibbed. The rifle can no longer be
mounted in an emitter or turret, which fired it on their own power and
skipped the shot limit and cooldown.
