Change and mathematical scope

Add four inert files in research/h25-metadata-confinement-gap/ documenting a concrete missing boundary. The unchanged public full caller requires runtime.chmod(493) (0755), while Linux v6.12 Landlock filesystem rules do not restrict chmod. Blanket metadata denial breaks that positive call; blanket allowance with generic seccomp rules does not prove artifact-only metadata confinement.

This is a source-based negative result. It claims no observed GCC escape, universal impossibility, current-kernel experiment, completed implementation, full-caller execution, performance or mathematical improvement. The explicit chmod establishes the positive edge without assuming a CPython reference release equals the selected installed distribution.

Task and overlap

Original investigation: #6321. Original benchmark: #6029. Direct dependencies: #6744, 1ac58a84b725bd6f17eec66727edc877c49c7e66, readable full caller; #6715, dc34598c22e2ef43ae7e11fc1d8c14de3915cf89, source archive; #6736, 0f2a86fa9ef0daf760b77c662a5b762e17848598, actual capture/guardian/retention ownership components. The latter supply reusable lifetime components, not a metadata service. Existing source is preserved; no broad novelty claim is made.

Canonical main base: 7c49fe32c55de02c2c873655c804b16e4c3fef0a, freshly refreshed without drift. Explicitly authorized publication of a scoped negative result. Scope is refined to this public source finding and the minimum unresolved interface; original full-caller criteria remain open. The process-fallback and compiler-temporary-directory questions remain resolved. No new implementation or research is started by delivery.

Validation

Preparation checks only the exact four-file inventory, ordinary non-executable file modes, JSON syntax, hashes, license equality and text scope. EVIDENCE.json binds the 104,276-byte caller to SHA-256 fa9f473320e9df3a2328bd8388f12eca4e7fc3eeed9289f7fdbf2eeb32a7452f and links the exact public source spans. The README links the Linux v6.12 Landlock limitation, Git blob 33745642f7875a17261fc584322a46f8c894b86f, and seccomp filter/notification documentation.

No project import, candidate replay, compiler/native execution, kernel probe or scientific workload was run. No executable checker or VERIFY.json replay hook is included. Hosted planning and skipped replay supply no scientific execution credit. Source review and byte integrity do not establish an installed-kernel result.

Credit

Chris R / Clear1nsight; Douglas R. Colkitt and the original H25/CrocSwap authors, independent-oracle/review owners, predecessor contributors and cited Linux authors. Substantial OpenAI Codex and ChatGPT Pro assistance, with distinct GPT-6.1-sol Max source review. AI review is separate from human, proof-kernel and runtime acceptance. New text/metadata is Apache-2.0; the exact Apache license is retained, and cited external sources are not copied or relicensed.

Open next questions

Select and independently review a genuine artifact-only metadata interface, or a proved filesystem view covering every accessible alias. The first decisive contract must bind the actual target and effect, preserve real errno, order and partial effects, prevent path/descriptor substitution and cross-root aliases, retain caller/mediator death and pending-operation uncertainty, and connect all handles and requests to genuine ownership and sealing. A notification followed by continuation of the original unsafe syscall does not settle those obligations. No standalone simulated broker or new financial service closes this gap.

Delivery verified at exact head a7903f7ee16c85015f3f9a87fd6f3ae5c9053349: four added ordinary documentation/metadata/license files, one commit, unchanged base 7c49fe32c55de02c2c873655c804b16e4c3fef0a. Remote bytes and Git blobs match the independently reviewed allowlist. This PR is open as a draft, with maintainer edits disabled.

Hosted run 42196847705, attempt 1, completed successfully at this head: plan succeeded; replay was skipped. This is archival planning delivery, not native or scientific execution.

Canonical handoff on original PR #6321 and short hub pointer are posted and read back. The unresolved task is a genuine artifact-only metadata target/effect contract or complete filesystem view, preserving aliases, actual errors, partial effects, death, pending-operation uncertainty and sealing. Original full-caller completion remains open.

Source inspection and publication only; no project import, compiler/native/scientific workload, kernel probe, control rerun or new implementation was performed. Predecessor and Linux credit and substantial OpenAI Codex/ChatGPT Pro assistance are retained in the package.

The reviewed source follow-up on original PR #6321 refines the preferred filesystem-view route and records a conditional foreign-ID POSIX ACL counterexample to metadata equivalence under a one-ID namespace. It also distinguishes protection of actual source/control/capture objects from an unnecessary blanket host-metadata criterion.

The original metadata domain has not been narrowed. Actual payload ACLs and selected installed Python behavior remain unobserved. Complete caller authoring remains NO-GO pending preservation of the original metadata domain or an explicit domain decision. This is a source clarification with independent Sol Max review, not a native implementation or original activity completion. The archive commit a7903f7ee16c85015f3f9a87fd6f3ae5c9053349 remains unchanged; no control campaign or CI replay was rerun. Substantial OpenAI Codex and ChatGPT Pro assistance is retained in the canonical note.

The revised source-route decision on the original investigation corrects the earlier universal metadata-preservation prerequisite. Source authoring can proceed as one connected private mount view, outer relay, full selector/receiver and retention change. The original retention oracle's xattr/ACL refusal remains a concrete compatibility obligation; silent attribute omission must not conceal it. This is permission to author and review the complete source tuple, not completed implementation, current-environment qualification or execution. The scoped Landlock finding in this PR remains unchanged.
