Addressed the review and failed CI in 2903f5c.
Local verification: 9 connection tests, all 131 render tests, a real Shapefile-to-PNG export (visually inspected), CLI name/edit/remove and reserved-name smoke scenarios, cargo xtask ci, and the wasm build all passed. The CodeRabbit docstring-coverage result is inconclusive, not the failing CI check; the failed check was the Ubuntu render test job. |

The S3 login state and the session are keyed only by connection name (s3::connection(&c.name), s3::disconnect(&old.name)). The S3 connection registry is shared with s3.connect and the S3 dialog. A connection made there under the same name will show loggedIn: true. connection.remove and connection.edit will also disconnect it, even though the saved connection never created it. Also, connection.duplicate of a logged-in S3 connection gets a different name and so starts logged out, which is fine. Low-medium confidence that this matters in practice. It may be worth mentioning in the docs or namespacing the session name.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Documented explicitly in 0772908. Delivery 1 deliberately reuses the existing name-based S3 session registry so saved connections, s3.connect and the unchanged S3 dialog interoperate. A same-name live entry supplies loggedIn, and editing/removing the saved entry disconnects that live entry regardless of which existing UI/command created it. Introducing a second namespaced registry here would break that approved compatibility path. The user guide now calls out this shared lifetime rather than implying independent ownership.

connection.test makes connection.login a side effect: the supplied password or keys are stored for the session before the test runs, and they stay stored if the test then fails (wrong password, unreachable host). That is probably intended per the docs, but a "test" that silently persists credentials, and shares a database password by DSN across other layers and connections, can surprise. Consider whether a failed test should leave the login in place. Also, login for non-S3/non-database kinds returns "don't log in yet", so connection.test with a stray password on a wms connection now errors instead of just testing. Confidence: low-medium.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Kept the planned login-first behavior and made it explicit in the docs in 0772908: when login parameters are supplied, connection.test logs in first, and a failed listing does not undo that session login. A failed listing can mean a temporary network error and does not establish that credentials are invalid; rolling back a shared-DSN login could also affect other connections/layers. A password supplied to a WMS connection intentionally produces the unsupported-login error rather than silently discarding an explicitly supplied secret. The parameter description already says logs in first; the guide now also describes the failure case.
Code reviewI read the full diff and the surrounding assistant and plugin gating code. I did not run the code or the tests. The core design holds up: addresses are redacted before saving, ids and names are validated, and secrets stay session-only. The one clear problem is in the docs. Bugs

There was a problem hiding this comment.
An S3 connection with no credentials option falls through to unwrap_or("none"), so it logs in anonymously. connection.new {kind:"s3"} and edits that clear options therefore silently produce anonymous access. The S3 dialog and the legacy import both default to keys. Consider defaulting to keys, or storing the credentials option explicitly in clean. Confidence: medium.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
This default is intentional in the approved command contract: an omitted credentials option means none. connection.new with no login method creates a public/anonymous connection; it does not implicitly discover environment or profile credentials. Migration maps an empty legacy source to keys because that older saved format represented typed keys. The dialog may preselect keys, while the command supports explicit anonymous connections. I would keep the specified command behavior rather than silently change the login method.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
The import dedupe compares the raw legacy old.address with the already-redacted c.address. A legacy entry whose address contained a password or token never matches, so it can be imported twice. Compare against sources::redact(&old.address). Also, add_unique errors (cap of 200, invalid legacy addresses) are dropped with let _ =, so legacy entries are lost without any notice. Confidence: low-medium.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
The production migration path normalizes before this comparison: sourcespane::load_connections passes Sources::from_json(...), which runs sources::clean entry by entry, including address redaction. Thus a legacy password/token is already removed from old.address before Connections::import compares it with imported addresses. A caller constructing an unclean Sources value directly would bypass that normalization, but the preferences migration does not. Skipping invalid or over-cap entries is the planned tolerant, bounded import behavior. Crucially, data_sources and s3_connections are not rewritten or deleted, so skipped entries remain in the legacy preferences and existing pane; they are not destroyed. A migration summary/warning could be a separate UX enhancement rather than weakening validation or the cap.

This change (and the one in crates/render/src/stream_tests.rs) is unrelated to connections. It looks like a flaky-test fix for the merge. Consider moving it to its own PR or saying so in the description. Confidence: low.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Agreed that these are ancillary test-only fixes. The PR description now has a dedicated CI fixture stabilization section explaining the two original Ubuntu render failures and the later local GPU fixture race. They settle asynchronous setup before measuring the existing invariants; no production rendering code changed, tests were not skipped, and ownership, diagnostic, camera-reuse and pixel assertions remain intact. I retained the fixes here because the reported CI failures needed to be addressed before this PR could be verified.

Pushed the upstream merge resolution in 0772908. The conflict was adjacent engine module exports; both connections and geometry_calc are retained. GitHub now reports mergeable=true, and the normal CI workflows have resumed: https://github.com/opengeos/RustGIS/actions/runs/39798043408. The merged revision passes the full local cargo xtask ci gate and the wasm build. A final local gate also exposed a GPU test setup race: the fixture could start camera motion immediately after an async upload, before the idle frame normalized the live-tile cache key. The helper now waits through that idle frame and rechecks worker/fetch quiescence; existing camera reuse and GPU/CPU pixel assertions are unchanged. The 5 GPU tests and final full gate pass. Follow-up review clarifications are included: shared S3 names and test/login lifetime are documented; in-app assistant per-call approval is distinguished from MCP refusal. A regression verifies that approval creates the connection and an identical subsequent call still requests fresh approval. |

GitHub CI is now green for 0772908: https://github.com/opengeos/RustGIS/actions/runs/39798043408. The Ubuntu tests and layering check passed, alongside wasm, licences/notices and pre-commit lint. The merge conflict is resolved (GitHub reports mergeable=true). Replied to the latest review threads with the existing contract/call-path evidence. The PR description now explicitly identifies the ancillary render/GPU fixture stabilization. No further product behavior changes were needed for those latest notes. |

@coderabbitai Agreed with the outside-diff finding about an S3 rename inheriting a destination-name runtime session. Fixed in 808fd83. Reproduced before the fix using the CLI: saved A pointed at saved.example, runtime-only B pointed at runtime.example, and renaming A to B incorrectly returned loggedIn=true. A successful rename now disconnects both the old and destination runtime names. Rejected edits and group-only edits retain their existing sessions. Added connections_s3_rename_cannot_inherit_a_destination_session: it verifies both sessions are cleared, connection.test requires login instead of using the unrelated runtime endpoint, and a new login uses the saved endpoint. Updated the user guide. Verification passed: focused regression, CLI smoke (renamed connection loggedIn=false and no remaining runtime sessions), cargo xtask ci, and wasm build. |

Nit (scope): the changes to stream_tests.rs and crates/ui-egui/tests/gpu_fastpath.rs stabilise unrelated render and GPU tests. They have nothing to do with connections. A separate PR would be easier to review and to revert if needed. Confidence: high that they're unrelated, low that it matters.

Design concern (medium confidence): S3 sessions are keyed by connection name in the shared runtime registry, so remove, edit and shown().loggedIn can act on a session that s3.connect or the S3 dialog created under the same name. A saved connection called "default", for example, would log out the dialog's default session. The docs mention this, and the tests cover the rename case. Keying the session by connection id, or prefixing the registry name, would remove the coupling. As written, remove also disconnects whenever the name matches, even if the session never came from this connection.

Latest upstream merge resolution is pushed in 1a774b3. GitHub confirms mergeable=true against main at 94bfaeb. The conflicting render fixture setup now uses upstream #700 rather than our competing stabilization; the PR description has been updated accordingly. The CodeRabbit S3 rename fix from 808fd83 is included: both runtime names are cleared on a successful rename, with regression coverage and CLI before/after proof. The fully merged tree passed cargo xtask ci and the wasm build locally. Latest-head GitHub CI has not yet been verified. |

Session credentials aren't cleared when a database connection's address is edited. edit only drops the S3 session on change, so a password stored for the old database address stays in the session store, and loggedIn is computed from the address. The old password is orphaned but not revoked. Confidence: low-medium. Consider clearing it on address change for database kinds. Also, remove doesn't forget database session passwords, only S3 ones.
