fix(web): ratings show as stars with a short count, without the extra words - #1534
compare: table row, picker, verdict, header cards, popular pairs;
versus scoreboard;
leaderboard: podium, rows, active score;
deals;
watchlist KPI;
search dropdown;
inspect;
merchant page (platform rating, listing and review ratings) and merchants directory;
home: battles and merchant cards;
reviews section (overall and buyer score);
value calculator.
Composite scores that rank close products (versus, leaderboard, deals, battles) keep two decimals.
Words removed from screen copy:
/ 5.0 and /5.0 everywhere;
bài kiểm chứng, review thật, (có trọng số) (the label is now "Điểm người mua");
chuẩn 10 nhóm, (Bayes);
the duplicated count badges ("N đánh giá thực chất" in leaderboard rows, "✓ N Hợp lệ" in reviews), since the count is now in the parentheses.
The meaning stays in tooltips: the buyer score explains the weighting and the fake-review filter, and the lab score says "Thang 10, chấm theo 10 nhóm thông số".
Lab score scale: the scoreboard showed the lab score as 8.6 followed by "/ 5.0 chuẩn 10 nhóm", which is the wrong scale. The reviews section and the compare table showed the same score on 5. It now reads x/10 everywhere it shows. The number is the same score, resolveCompareExpertRating10 = 2 × the /5 value.
Unchanged:
score values;
Markdown, CSV and JSON exports;
the per-criterion bars (the per-criterion star model is a separate design issue);
the existing per-review star rows.
Tests
src/lib/__tests__/rating-display.test.ts (in pnpm test):
colour bands at their edges, on the printed value;
fill;
empty and capped values;
the decimal mark per locale;
the count separator per locale;
each locale has the component's messages;
vi.json no longer has the removed phrases;
no .tsx prints a /5.0 scale with formatDecimal(5, …).
e2e/star-rating.spec.ts:
the product scoreboard score is role="img" with the "… trên 5 sao, N đánh giá" label;
the value, (count), colour band and fill match;
the page has none of the removed phrases;
the cards and the leaderboard render the same stars.
Updated for the new markup:
product-above-fold.spec.ts and inspect-copy.spec.ts;
plural-copy, leaderboard-badge-copy, and core-rate-architecture (the leaderboard now renders <StarRating).
tsc and eslint pass. The unit tests above and core-rate-architecture pass locally.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Introduced a consistent, accessible star-rating display across product pages, comparisons, reviews, merchant listings, leaderboards, and other rating views. Ratings now include localized values and review counts where available, with clear unrated states.
Updated expert ratings to use a 10-point scale in relevant views.
Updates
Simplified score formatting by removing redundant scale suffixes from several displays and translations.
Removed verified-review labels from leaderboard entries.
Tests
Expanded coverage for rating presentation, formatting, contrast, and visibility.
… words
One StarRating component (components/elementary) draws every on-screen
rating: five stars filled to the value, the value at one decimal (two where
close scores are ranked) and the count in parentheses with the locale's
thousands separator. Stars are green from 4.0, orange from 3.0, red below,
judged on the printed value (lib/rating-display.ts). Screen readers get one
label, "4.6 trên 5 sao, 11.204 đánh giá".
Used on the product scoreboard, phone hero line and peer cards, product
cards, compare, versus, leaderboard, deals, watchlist, search, inspect,
merchant pages and the reviews section. "/ 5.0", "bài kiểm chứng",
"chuẩn 10 nhóm", "(có trọng số)" and "(Bayes)" are gone; their meaning
stays in tooltips. The lab score reads on 10 everywhere it shows.
Score values do not change. Exports keep their fixed form.

Walkthrough
The web app adds a shared StarRating component and rating-formatting utilities. Product, merchant, comparison, review, deal, and leaderboard views now use the component. The change also updates rating translations, theme styles, and automated checks.
Adds rating value, tone, fill, and locale-formatting utilities and a reusable component with accessible labels and empty states. Adds theme colors, translations, and related tests.

Updates product and review ratings to use StarRating. Expert scores display on a 10-point scale. End-to-end checks cover rating visibility and presentation.
Updates homepage, merchant, inspection, deal, and watchlist rating displays to use StarRating. Adds the hero-products test to the test command and updates the inspection visibility check.

Updates comparison and leaderboard score displays to use StarRating. Comparison rows separate screen values from export values, and expert ratings display on a 10-point scale. Related checks are updated.
The shared ratings remain usable, but some unrated products lose review totals and touch users lose access to score details. These are bounded usability issues rather than evidence of incorrect underlying scores or broken exports; address them or explicitly accept follow-up before merging.

The description is detailed and on topic. It explains the motivation, implementation, affected areas, behavior changes, exclusions, and reported validation. The formal checklist and Notes headings are not included, but the required validation information is largely covered.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes map to #1528 or to support work for it.
Rating display: StarRating or the shared helper replaces inline rating markup on the listed surfaces (product, cards, compare, versus, leaderboard, deals, watchlist, search, inspect, merchant, home, reviews, value calculator).
Copy: the locale files remove the listed phrases. The starRating scope is added to client-messages.ts.
Tests: selector and copy assertions change to match the new markup.
Exports: compare CSV/JSON and versus Markdown/CSV/JSON keep their /5.0 and value formats, as the PR states.
Reviewer attention points (related, not unrelated):
JReviewsSection removes the low-confidence fade and the raw-score badge. It moves the count and computation details into the tooltip.
Lab scores move to an x/10 display. This replaces the incorrect /5.0 label and keeps the value.
package.json lists hero-products.test.ts in the test chain. The diff does not show whether this PR added it. It is a test-runner entry only.
No change is shown to be unrelated to #1528.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#1528] Objectives:
Stars with fractional fill, value at one decimal, count in parentheses with locale separator.
One shared colour helper: green at 4.0 or more, orange at 3.0 to 3.9, red below 3.0.
Remove verbose words; keep meaning in a tooltip.
Short empty states.
One reusable component; readable in light and dark themes.
Score values unchanged.
Met at the reviewed head:
Objectives 1 and 2 (partly): StarRating.tsx renders role="img" stars. Fill comes from ratingFillPercent. The value comes from formatRatingValue. The count comes from formatRatingCount, which uses locale separators. rating-display.ts sets RATING_GOOD_MIN = 4.0 and RATING_FAIR_MIN = 3.0. ratingTone rounds to the printed digits before it compares.
Objective 3: The PR removes the listed phrases from the locale files. It moves the meaning into title tooltips.
Objective 4: The empty state uses emptyLabel or t('empty').
Objective 5: One component is used across the listed views (PR description and file summaries). The light and dark contrast tokens are PR-reported. They were not verified in this review.
Objective 6: The PR and export code keep score values unchanged.
Unmet:
Objective 1 requires the number at one decimal for every rating. StarRating accepts digits of 1 or 2. The PR description states that composite scores on versus, leaderboard, deals and home battles keep two decimals. Those surfaces do not meet the one-decimal requirement. #1528 contains no exception for them. The stated reason (close scores need ranking precision) does not change the issue text.
Not established:
Per-review star rows stay unchanged. #1528 does not exclude them by name. Whether they count as ratings under #1528 is not decided here.
Automated tests were not run in this review. Their results are PR-reported only.
Resolution
Either set digits to 1 on the composite-score StarRating uses in versus, leaderboard, deals and home battles. Or record in #1528 an approved exception that allows two decimals on those surfaces. Then update the unit and e2e assertions that expect two decimals so they match the chosen rule.

…heir form
- starRating joins the shared client message scope, so client trees
(compare, leaderboard, reviews and the rest) get the stars' label and
empty text instead of the raw key.
- The compare CSV and JSON cells keep "Lab x / 5.0" and the old review
count text; only the on-screen cells show stars and the lab score on 10.
- The versus verdict drops "/5.0". Leaderboard battle cards and each
review's stars use StarRating. Criterion scores keep a "/5" marker next
to the lab score on 10, and a criterion score of 0 reads "chưa có".
- A tooltip's meaning is also a visually hidden sibling, since aria-label
wins over title on role="img".

Checked on the live product page with the component's markup and CSS: at
the large size, "4.6 (11.204)" ran past the half-width buyer score box.
The stars, value and count now wrap as units. The product page's
leaderboard badge drops its "/5.0", and the scale check also covers
formatDecimal calls whose locale variable is named otherwise.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…hows it
Codex round 2: with lab scores 4.51 and 4.54 the table showed "Lab 9.0/10"
and "Lab 9.1/10", but "only differences" compared the export text, which
is "Lab 4.5 / 5.0" for both, and hid the row. A row's screenValue now feeds
both the cell and the filter; renderValue stays the export text.

Fresh-context review of 0bc001d. Findings and fixes, in 56732eb:
starRating never reached client trees. The compare, leaderboard, reviews, deals and versus pages would have shown the raw key in empty states and labels.
It is now in CLIENT_MESSAGE_SCOPES.shared.
client-messages.test and rating-display.test guard it.
Compare CSV and JSON exports changed form through renderValue. The exports keep ★ x / 5.0 (N review thật) and Lab x / 5.0 again; only the screen cells changed.
Missed spots:
the versus verdict's /5.0;
the leaderboard battle cards and each review's stars, which now use the component;
the criterion scores, which keep a /5 marker next to the lab score on 10.
Tooltip meaning was hidden from screen readers.aria-label wins over title, so the hint is now also a visually hidden sibling.
Empty criterion scores read "chưa có", not "Chưa có đánh giá".
Codex round 1 found the same first two issues and the criterion scale; all are fixed in 56732eb.
Live check (rate.vn, with the component's markup and CSS applied in the browser only):
Light and dark both read well, and the bands show green, orange and red.
Found: at the large size, "4.6 (11.204)" ran out of the half-width buyer score box. The stars now wrap as units, in be54f1e.
Also found: the product page's leaderboard badge still printed (4.98/5.0). Fixed in be54f1e; the scale guard now covers any locale variable name.
Codex round 2 found that the compare "only differences" filter compared the export text. With lab scores 4.51 and 4.54 it hid a row whose screen cells differ (9.0 vs 9.1). Fixed in fe6d1c2: a row's screenValue feeds both the cell and the filter, with a unit test. Codex reported no other P0 or P1.
axe flagged the empty state (muted ink is under 4.5:1 on #f1f5f9 cards)
and the buyer score faded to 50% for thin data. The empty state takes the
secondary ink and the score is no longer faded; the confidence badge
already says the data is thin. The dark surface check also measures the
stars' value, count and empty text, so /leaderboard still has text to
measure.

Wait for a rated .rate-stars element, not any .rate-stars element.
.rate-stars also matches the empty state of StarRating. This assertion passes when the seeded product has no buyer score. Exclude the empty state so the wait ends only after the score renders.

- /** Short text when there is no rating; "Chưa có đánh giá" by default. */+ /** Short text when there is no rating. Defaults to the `starRating.empty` message. */
- * red below (`ratingTone`). Screen readers get one label, "4.6 trên 5 sao,- * 11.204 đánh giá".+ * red below (`ratingTone`). Screen readers get one localized label that+ * states the value and the review count.
As per coding guidelines: "Code & Code comments" must be "100% Tiếng Anh" (100% English) under AGENTS.md section 0, rule 3.

Round the count before the plural message.
StarRating passes the raw count to the ariaWithCount message. English plural rules select other for a fractional count such as 1.2, so the accessible label reads "1 reviews" while the visible text shows "(1)". Round the count once, then use it for both the plural selector and the display text.

Update the count handling in StarRating so fractional counts use one rounded,
nonnegative value for both the ariaWithCount plural selector and the visible
countText; preserve the existing no-count behavior for non-finite or missing
counts.

Keep the review total visible when the user rating is zero.
At apps/web/src/components/inspect/DeepInspectWorkspace.tsx:25-36, count is null when masterUserRating is not positive. StarRating then renders no count. A product with reviews but no rating loses the review total that the card showed before this change. Render that total in a separate element when masterUserRating is zero.

Keep the verified review count visible when the user rating is empty.

Resolve VersusInteractiveScoreboard against #1534: the scoreboard uses

…imal (#1478)
* ux(web): versus scores and battle cards show the product's own rating
#1470 (part): the versus scoreboard showed 4.98 and 5.00 while the
comparison matrix on the same page showed 5.0 and 5.0, and called a leader
on a 0.02 gap.
- The versus scoreboard's base score is the product's stored buyer rating
(userScore5), the one the matrix, cards and compare show, instead of the
leaderboard composite; persona weights still blend in the criteria.
- Scores, the verdict and the tie read at one decimal, like the matrix:
5.0 against 5.0 is a tie.
- Home and compare battle cards show that rating at one decimal.
The product page's headline stays the Bayesian estimate (#1144); whether
lists and versus should show it too is open on #1470.

* fix(web): versus keeps the composite for models with no buyer rating
Review of #1478: a model with no buyer rating falls back to its composite
instead of scoring 0; the gap, the leading note and the JSON export read
at one decimal, from the scores as shown; battle cards go back to the
composite they are ranked and paired by.

Closes #1528
JOY asked for ratings as stars with a short count, and for fewer words around them.
What
One component,
components/elementary/StarRating.tsx, draws every on-screen rating.It shows five stars filled to the value, the value at one decimal and the count in parentheses:
★★★★½ 4.6 (11.204).The count takes the locale's thousands separator:
vi11.204,en11,204,cs11 204.Star colour, from
lib/rating-display.ts:The band is judged on the printed value, so 3.96 shown as "4.0" is green.
The value and the count keep the text colour. Stars use
--rate-star-*tokens for light, dark and obsidian surfaces, each at least 3:1.Screen readers get one label: "4.6 trên 5 sao, 11.204 đánh giá".
With no rating, the empty state is short: "Chưa có đánh giá", or the page's own short word.
It is a shared component with no
'use client', used by server pages and client components alike, likeProductCard.Where it is used:
Composite scores that rank close products (versus, leaderboard, deals, battles) keep two decimals.
Words removed from screen copy:
/ 5.0and/5.0everywhere;bài kiểm chứng,review thật,(có trọng số)(the label is now "Điểm người mua");chuẩn 10 nhóm,(Bayes);The meaning stays in tooltips: the buyer score explains the weighting and the fake-review filter, and the lab score says "Thang 10, chấm theo 10 nhóm thông số".
Lab score scale: the scoreboard showed the lab score as
8.6followed by "/ 5.0 chuẩn 10 nhóm", which is the wrong scale. The reviews section and the compare table showed the same score on 5. It now readsx/10everywhere it shows. The number is the same score,resolveCompareExpertRating10= 2 × the /5 value.Unchanged:
Tests
src/lib/__tests__/rating-display.test.ts(inpnpm test):vi.jsonno longer has the removed phrases;.tsxprints a/5.0scale withformatDecimal(5, …).e2e/star-rating.spec.ts:role="img"with the "… trên 5 sao, N đánh giá" label;(count), colour band and fill match;product-above-fold.spec.tsandinspect-copy.spec.ts;plural-copy,leaderboard-badge-copy, andcore-rate-architecture(the leaderboard now renders<StarRating).core-rate-architecturepass locally.Review

📌 TL;DR
This PR introduces a unified
StarRatingcomponent to replace inconsistent text-based rating displays across the application, ensuring visual consistency, accessibility (ARIA labels), and standardized color coding based on score bands. It also updates localization files to remove verbose rating suffixes and adds comprehensive E2E tests to verify the new UI behavior.🎯 Type of Change
