Why the change

Under happy-dom every Redact event handler sees e.type, e.target and e.currentTarget as undefined, so a controlled input never reads e.target.value and happy-dom test suites can't run on Redact.

Special things to note

  • happy-dom defines the base Event fields as class accessors, which are non-enumerable, and for…in skips them. Browsers and jsdom make them enumerable, so they were never affected.
  • The hydration-stub client gains 29/32 B gzip (source/built). It had 0 B headroom on main, so it gets that measured allowance, following the existing allowance tables. Every other entry fits its current budget.
  • tests gains a happy-dom dev dependency for the regression test (// @vitest-environment happy-dom).

Change outline

Repro, on main at 37c051c with happy-dom 21.0.4:

for (k in mouseEvent) -> detail, view, clientX, shiftKey, ... (MouseEvent/UIEvent fields)
Event.prototype names -> type, target, currentTarget, bubbles, composedPath, ... (non-enumerable, skipped)

<input value={v} onChange={e => setV(e.target.value)} />
before TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'value')
after   e.type === 'input', e.target === input
 createSyntheticEvent(native)
- for (const key in native) copy(key)
+ for (let o = native; o; o = Object.getPrototypeOf(o))
+ for (const key of Object.getOwnPropertyNames(o)) copy(key)
+ // Object.prototype names are already `in event`, so they are skipped

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Synthetic events in happy-dom now expose inherited event fields, including event type and target, and support reading controlled input values. This resolves cases where those fields were missing or input values could not be read in happy-dom test suites.

createSyntheticEvent copied native fields with for…in, which skips
non-enumerable properties. happy-dom defines type, target,
currentTarget, bubbles and composedPath as class accessors, so under
happy-dom every handler saw them as undefined and a controlled input
could not read e.target.value.

Walk the prototype chain with Object.getOwnPropertyNames instead. Names
from Object.prototype are already present on the synthetic event, so
they are skipped. The hydration=stub client gains 29/32 B gzip
(source/built) and gets that measured allowance; every other entry stays
within its existing budget.

Walkthrough

createSyntheticEvent now copies own properties found on the native event and its prototype chain. Happy-dom tests cover input and bubbled click fields. The changeset describes the update, and the size check adds a gzip allowance.

Minor · Stability & Availability · Quick win

Do not let an unrelated getter prevent event delivery.

If an Event subclass defines get metadata() { throw new Error('unavailable') }, this loop reads metadata before the handler runs. Class getters are non-enumerable, so the previous for…in loop did not read it. Skip optional properties whose getters throw, or limit eager reads to the required event fields. …n-enumerable fields

Redact copies native event fields into its synthetic events with for…in,
which skips non-enumerable properties. happy-dom defines type, target,
currentTarget, bubbles and composedPath as class accessors, so under
happy-dom every handler saw them as undefined and controlled inputs never
read e.target.value. OntOS's Shell unit tests stay on real React because
of it.

The reviewed patch now walks the prototype chain instead
(TanStack/redact#113) in both src and dist. 0.2.1 is immutable, so the
sidecar recipe and its closed profile publish it as
@bleedingdev/tanstack-redact@0.2.2. The stream marker stays v1, as for
any regenerated reviewed patch.

The monorepo cannot install 0.2.2 before it is published, so app-tools
keeps the signed 0.2.1 sidecar through an explicit previousFork edge that
accepts only that exact alias, never upstream @tanstack/redact.
Non-publish CI candidates and packed test cohorts install the
reconstructed 0.2.2 for that edge, so every consumer suite qualifies the
bytes that will ship. Release staging is never rewritten: alias
consistency blocks a cohort until app-tools declares 0.2.2. The follow-up
that switches app-tools deletes the edge.
