…pengeos#699) Expanding a saved connection in Data Sources › Connections lists its datasets a level at a time, with Refresh, an inline error and Retry/Log In…. Click selects, double-click adds, Add Selected adds each as its own undo step, Add With Options… opens the kind's dialog. New engine command connection.browse (probe/answer, like connection.test) for all 13 kinds, so the CLI and the assistant can browse too; user-only for plugins.
… a bar The Add Selected / Clear Selection bar shifted the list when the first dataset was picked, which also moved the row between the two clicks of a double-click. They are now entries in a dataset's right-click menu; a double-click adds that dataset.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Nit (low confidence): add_with used to be empty for an unknown kind and was per-kind guidance. It's now one string for every kind, and it no longer says that S3 needs connection.login first when credentials are keys. connection.browse does return that hint on error, so this is only a discoverability loss. The per-kind guidance also told the assistant the underlying commands (stac.search, service.coverage), which it can no longer see. Consider keeping a short per-kind hint.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Kept as is: the plan asks for one addWith hint for every kind, and connection.browse names the next step itself (its errors say to log in first, and each child carries the command that adds it), so a per-kind list would only repeat what browsing returns.

- a dataset without an add (grouped OGC API features) can't be selected or double-clicked, and has no Add entry: it keeps Add With Options… - a CSW download link too long to follow is left out (and the list says it is truncated); the name and title kept with it are cut at 200 characters - connection.browse refuses an answer larger than a service document may be (64 MB) - the engine test runs the add a browsed WCS coverage lists

Blocking on the UI thread (medium confidence). When the probe returns no fetch (databases, and S3 levels that need a login), connection.browse runs synchronously here, inside level() during frame drawing. For a database that means a blocking connect and a tables() query on the render thread, and the browse calls s3_login as well. An unreachable or slow Postgres/MySQL/SQL Server host will freeze the UI until the driver times out. Consider running the database level on a background thread, as the network levels are, or at least bounding the connect timeout.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Known tradeoff, kept: listing a database's tables runs on the frame on the desktop, as Test does today (the plan's explicit scope; the network levels are already off-frame). Moving it to a worker thread (a Slot, like the fetches) is a good follow-up, but it is its own change.

- an asset's key names its item, so the same file under two items is two rows (selection and fold state no longer collide) - the documents of a browse count against the same size limit as its answer - the probe's S3 login is documented in the command's parameters

When the probe returns no fetch (databases, S3 with named buckets), the non-probe connection.browse runs synchronously here on the UI thread. For a Postgres/MySQL/SQL Server connection that means LiveDb::connect plus the table query inside the frame. A slow or unreachable host will freeze the app until the driver times out, and this also fires on every Retry. The module header says reads happen "off the frame", but the database path doesn't.
Consider running this on a background thread, or at least bounding the connect timeout. Confidence: medium.

| if let Level::S3Prefix { bucket, .. } = level { | ||
| s3::grant(&conn.name, bucket); |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
s3::grant(&conn.name, bucket) runs for any syntactically valid bucket in a caller-supplied s3:<bucket>/… node, and the connection's configured buckets list is never consulted. A caller (the assistant or CLI) can therefore make the connection's signed requests go to any bucket, which widens what grant was meant to allow. Consider granting only buckets the connection names, or buckets listed by the account-level buckets_url call. Confidence: low-medium. I haven't checked what grant is for in s3.rs.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Same as the existing s3.list, which also grants the bucket it is asked to list (s3.rs): browsing a bucket through a connection lets that connection serve it for the session, whether the bucket was typed, listed by the account or named by the caller. The assistant and the CLI already have that with s3.list, so connection.browse doesn't widen it. Left as is.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Nit: the ArcGIS folder/service nodes built in service() are not checked with node_ok (catalogue and catalogs do check). A URL over 4096 bytes or containing control characters yields a child whose node browse then rejects, with an unhelpful error. Filter these out as catalogue does, and set truncated. Confidence: medium-low.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in the new commit: such a folder or service is left out and the list says it is truncated, as for catalogues.

- an ArcGIS folder or service whose address is too long to follow is left out (and the list is marked truncated), as for catalogues - an API item's key names its address, so items with one id in two collections stay apart - the smoke test checks that one undo takes one layer of Add Selected

| let (key, href) = item.asset_href(Some(&a.key)).ok()?; | ||
| let mut params = json!({"asset": key, "name": format!("{} {key}", item.id)}); |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
For an item without a url (inline item), stac::item_json_with(item, false) is embedded in the add params of every asset, up to 500 assets per item. The same JSON is then cloned into each Pick.child in the UI. This duplicates a potentially large document N times in the response and in memory. Consider adding the item once per item node, or keying the asset by id and rebuilding the item at add time. Confidence: low-medium (performance only).

| } | ||
| let conn = s3::connection(&c.name).ok_or("log in first: connection.login {id, accessKeyId, secretAccessKey}")?; | ||
| if let Level::S3Prefix { bucket, .. } = level { |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
s3::grant runs for any valid bucket name a caller puts in node, including on probe. Browsing with a node is therefore enough to extend the connection's credentials to a bucket it was never configured with, for the rest of the session. Requests go to AWS for that bucket, so this is not a leak. It does let an assistant or CLI caller widen scope without the user naming the bucket. Consider granting only when the bucket was listed by Level::S3Root or is in the connection's buckets option, or only on the non-probe path. Confidence: low.

seen gets an entry per connection when its row is first expanded, and nothing removes entries for removed connections. It is a small leak that also keeps the old definition (which may hold an address or other options) alive. Prune with seen.retain(|id, _| connections.find(id).is_some()) here. Confidence: medium (minor).
| (false, Err(e)) => self.session.notify(e, true), | ||

| } |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
ServiceSteps now live in UiState.service_steps, outside ServiceConn. Before, resolving and describing were dropped when the service dialog was replaced or closed (ui.service = None). Now a pending step with dialog: true still finishes later and writes dialogs.info or dialogs.error, which can show a stale result over an unrelated dialog. Consider reporting dialog: true steps as notices once the service dialog is gone, or clearing those steps when it closes. Confidence: medium-low.

Expanding a saved connection in Data Sources › Connections lists its datasets, one level at a time, for all 13 connection kinds.
connection.browse: a new engine command that returns each level's children, with the command that adds each dataset.
