Description

Capture mono/stereo GMSL cameras through Argus, encode HEVC on Jetson, and send ordered AVS1 bundles over TCP. Includes bounded send queues, timing, native tests and an opt-in hardware smoke test. ARGUS_SENDER_CPU_TESTS_ONLY=ON keeps the portable tests usable on non-Jetson hosts.

Part 2/5 of the split of #1358. Base: #1389. Review this PR against its selected base to see only this component. The original PR is retained for discussion/history; it has not been rewritten or closed.

Per maintainer approval, files missing an explicit grant now carry Apache-2.0 headers. The three Argus-derived helpers (EGLGlobal.h, EGLGlobal.cpp, and Error.h, introduced in part 2) retain BSD-3-Clause notices; the missing upstream notice in EGLGlobal.cpp has been restored. Temporary LicenseRef-NVIDIA-Internal-Review metadata has been removed. All five parts pass full pre-commit checks; the combined stack also passes 7 portable C++ tests and 47 Python tests after this licensing-only update. Merge in order, retargeting/rebasing each dependent PR as its parent lands.

Type of change

  • New feature
  • Documentation update

Testing

Fresh isolated Release build on Jetson AGX Orin (JetPack R36.4.3); all 12 CTest unit/loopback tests passed. Portable workstation build: 7/7 passed. This pass did not open cameras or replace the deployed sender.

SKIP=check-copyright-year pre-commit run --all-files passed on this exact part. C++ additions were checked with clang-format-14.

Checklist

  • I have read the contribution guidelines.
  • I have run the full pre-commit checks.
  • Documentation matches the components available in this part.
  • Component tests are included where applicable; the viewer has CLI validation and awaits live operator testing.
  • All commits carry DCO sign-off.

Review stack

  1. AVS1 protocol, shared camera configuration, and portable tests
  2. Jetson Argus capture, HEVC encoding, and TCP sender
  3. Standalone NVDEC CUDA decoder
  4. Bounded TCP receiver and CUDA IPC publication
  5. CUDA IPC viewer and GMSL operator runbook

Component layout

Component directories now live directly under examples/camera_streamer/, without an intermediate visualization directory. Build paths, default-profile lookup, tests and license annotations follow the flattened layout. Reconfigure native builds after updating an existing deployment.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a Jetson camera sender example for streaming configured camera feeds over TCP, with stereo capture and HEVC or raw NV12 output.
    • Added camera mode listing, configuration validation, profile-based setup, frame-rate control, stereo alignment, and optional NV12 remapping.
    • Added receiver reconnect handling, timing and performance reporting, and an optional hardware smoke test. The default TCP port is 5000.
  • Documentation
    • Added Jetson setup, build, test, and launch instructions, including hardware smoke-test requirements and licensing information.

Walkthrough

This pull request adds a Jetson Argus camera sender. It captures and synchronizes camera frames, processes RAW_NV12 and HEVC streams, assembles AVS1 packets with timing metadata, and sends them over TCP. It also adds CPU-only build and test support, an opt-in hardware smoke test, and sender setup instructions.

The shipped hardware profile avoids the timeout, but an unbounded custom profile makes an otherwise successful smoke run fail. The parser also misses two wire-format regressions. These are bounded test-workflow risks that can be fixed or accepted before merge.

Validate sample roles in the hardware smoke parser.

The AVS1 contract assigns role 1 to camera 0 and role 2 to camera 1. parse_first_stream checks camera indices but ignores sample[2], so reversed or duplicate roles can pass this parser. The producer currently assigns and validates the correct roles, so this is a regression-detection gap rather than evidence of a current producer failure.

Suggested fix
-        if sample[0] != 0 or sample[1] != camera or not sample[3] & 1:

Reject records whose length does not match the AVS1 header.

recv_exact only enforces the outer length prefix. A later record can declare more payload bytes than it contains; the range check can pass, and Python slicing returns a shorter payload. Later bundles do not repeat the first-bundle NAL assertions, so this malformed record can pass.

Suggested fix
     descriptor_bytes, payload_bytes = fields[10], fields[11]
+ expected_length = HEADER.size + descriptor_bytes + payload_bytes
+    if len(packet) != expected_length:
+ raise ValueError("AVS1 packet length does not match header")

The inspected serializer emits records with the declared length, so this is a smoke-test coverage gap rather than a demonstrated sender failure.
